^yeah, the evidence is kind of sketchy, but everyone is just so willing to view Cobain as this sort-of tragic anti-hero that was 'forced' to commit suicide to escape his troubles and celebrity. During his life, he never wanted to be public property, but now that he is dead, he has become just that-public property. He has become idolized as an angst-rock god. Yes, their music is awesome and I really like Nirvana, but I don't worship Cobain. Grunge died when Cobain died, but it couldn't have really lasted that long anyway, could it? I mean, it seems everything that Nirvana rebelled against musically has become the trend again. Current bands riff off of Nirvana's angst-ridden lyrics and turn it into pop-punk trash that doesn't mean anything. I just wish things would have turned out differently, but they never do , do they?

Kurt Cobain is dead. So is grunge. Get over it. Personally, I don't really understand why people think Nirvana was so deep lyrically. I mean, you can't understand a word Kurt says in Smells Like Teen Spirit, and even if you have the words, they don't make sense. Maybe I'm just stereotyping based on one song, but w/e.

Wow, this topic seems a little heated. Nirvana was good (still is, at least to listen to, in my opinion). And maybe we ARE just jumping on the trend wagon, but what else do you expect? I mean, I was all of nine years old when Cobain died, I didn't listen to them when they were still around. But with the whole trend thing, I say, if you like at and it is good music, who cares if other people have turned it into a trend? You shouldn't not listen to something because it's suddenly become popular. Oh, well, and yes, there are other great grunge (and non-grunge) bands out there. Not everyone has to agree on everything, otherwise it would be a boring world! Okay, that was my (edited for length) two cents!

It makes me laugh when people talk about how deep and meaningful Nirvana's lyrics are...they're just gibberish that made sense to Kurt when he was strung out on heroin. How else do you explain "no i dont have a gun" sung over and over in "come as you are"? or "an albino/ a mosquito/ *something*/ my libido" in SLTS?

fire-inside
04-22-2004, 09:55 AM
Well now here I have to defend Kurt. Yeah, he was probably strung out on drugs when he wrote most of the songs - but don't go knocking his creativity. Songs aren't much more than poems. You wouldn't knock someone's poetry just because it didn't make sense to you. Someone might not understand the lyrics to Saviour - but that in no way makes it a stupid song.

Anyway, my point is this: Just because it might not make "sense" to you, does not make it invalid as poetry or art.

Kurt Cobain Movie In The Works At The WB
(LAUNCH, 04/19/2004 2:00 PM)

By LAUNCH Radio Networks

An original movie about the life of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain is being developed by the WB Network, according to Billboard.com. The WB has bought the rights to Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography Of Kurt Cobain, written by journalist Charles Cross and published in 2001. A screenwriter has already been hired to pen a script for the film, although there's no word on a director or star.

The film will reportedly follow Cobain's life from his troubled youth in Washington state to his emergence as an alternative rock icon with Nirvana.

Cobain's struggles with depression and drug abuse will also be explored, along with his turbulent relationship with wife Courtney Love.

A WB executive said that the network may air a public service announcement about depression after the film.

April 5 was the tenth anniversary of Cobain's suicide. He shot himself to death at his Seattle home, where his body was discovered three days later.

Left - Dave Grohl (Drums)

Right - Krist Novoselic (Bass)

Lately I've been really into this band, a lot of their songs are rather enjoyable. They started in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987, and have seen 13 other members, besides the 3 pictured above. Those 13 have left the band, and came on at various times, the 3 above being the main members.

They have several hit songs, such as:
-Lithium
-Smells Like Teen Spirit
-You Know You're Right
-About A Girl
-All Apoligies
-Come As You Are
-Heart-Shaped Box
-In Bloom
-Love Buzz

it's rather bittersweet. if Cobain's life wasn't so screwed up, he might not have been as excellent of a musician/songwriter as he was. it seems more pain can lead to greater creativity. but it can also self-destruct if not handled (like his). so, i would say, don't wish for less pain, but salvation is always good. :)

(not that it matters, since none of this can be changed. we don't own any time machines, at least we don't after mine broke down from that trek to 1132)
