Yeah, they got Billy Corgan to play through a whole song.
Man I don't care if they say the "D" word in one of their songs, I still think that they're a better witness than most other "Christian" bands on the secular market. They still preach the gospel in their songs, maybe they just need to be broken, and maybe you should lift up your brothers in prayer. I will now that I know this info.

I absolutely do care if they use the d word. It totally compromises thier witness. I'm saying this not only as a christian but as a parent. I have to say I haven't heard the song yet and I tried to think of how that word could be used in a correct manor without being profane and so far I haven't come up with one. I hope that the song proves me wrong.

no, he says it when he shouldn't have, its like"It's a da**ed cold night", why is that nesisary, you all can buy it, but its the same way I feel about POD, but POD hasn't gotten to the point of saying a cuss word in one of there songs, so, right now, im not gonna buy it, plus, I don't think my mom would let me, bands like that, turn me off conpletely, I can't stand it, I anit buyin it. If they've gotten that depret, then forget it, im not buyin into it, its the worlds thought, not mine, and I see and hear too much of it on TV already, thats why I don't care if bands like Pillar, 38th Parallel, and Kutless preach, becasue I need it, the world can listen to stuff like linkin Park(im not sayin there bad), but it turns me off, and it gets boaring to listen to a song like that for me.

from what my friend says, He's saying the night is damned as in its biblical meaning as if it's a forsaken, Godless night type thing. i don't think he's using it as a curseword because i know blindside would never curse in their music. we have to look at the context. and also burned_inside, i thought you were a lil out of line about blindside and pod. Just because they are making waves in the secular market does not make them any less "Christian" than bands like Pillar, Disciple, etc. And just because a band doesn't always scream, "Jesus saves!" in thier music doesn't make them any less christian than those that do. However, if you pay attention to the meaning of Blindside's and POD's lyrics, you will realize that the message is indeed, Jesus Saves.

Ya, I like both, I wouldn't have bought Blindside's Silence CD if I didn't like them, but there boards have made me allittle low about them, even though the boards have nothing to do with them, but Blindside is coo, and I have nothing against them, I endup saying stuff late at night i don't mean to say, so thats why I said that , lol, I was proably sayin that, or what I meant to say now is that P.O.D is more for people that don't like to be preached to, and its more for trying to reach out to the non Christians and not just us, but I like preachy music, which is why its not the greatest to say something agaist God or Jesus, or it won't be a good convo, lol.But Blindside rules, and if I would have known thats what they meant by it, then I wouldn't have been so negitive aobut them.

That's exactly what he's saying. It's about L.A. and how there is a contradiction in that place. So many people are like, "It's so nice down there!" but there are so many people that are totally persuing sin. The verse is all, "It's a darn cold night," but then the chorus says, "Horray it's a beautiful day, L.A." So I totally think that what skilletchickforeva said really applies.
P.S. Billy Corgan plays on this song! ROCK!

I still disagree with the use of the d word even if it's used in context (tho in my opinion its a bit of a stretch). There are so many other words that could be used. It was completely unessasary. If you have to go into detail as to why you used the word and it's context, then maybe it was a bad idea to use the word in the first place. Also when considering contextual use we must consider cultural use. In our culture it is a bad word. I know I wouldn't want to hear my kids singing that phrase. I would chalk it up to the "poor choice of words" catagory. Which yes I have fallen to on occasion (I can see the 4 fingers pointing back at me)...

i see what you're saying and perhaps it wasn't the best thing. this is why we need to remember that Blindside(just like you and me) are all human and we do make mistakes. I just hope some ppl such as www.corruptchristianmusic.com don't see that and get on their case about it. well they prolly will anyways, that website is just sick. if ppl can't accept the fact that ppl in Christian music make mistakes then they have planks sticking out of their eyes. I'm sorry, i'm kinda ranting like this but i was on that stupid website last night anyways cuz i wanted to see what they said about Evanescence. instead of really blaming the band, they blamed the christian bookstores for selling the cd to begin w/! oh well, i need to calm down. I'm just tired of hearing that a certain christian band is corrupt because the members happen to make some mistakes. everybody makes mistakes, no matter how Christian we are. Paul even did.

ya know I have to say this in adendum to my last post. The decision wasn't just the band but it also lies with thier producers and label. So just pondering the thought: a secular label and producer aren't going to care if the d word is used. I wonder how much thought was put in to the lyrick by all concerned parties? Does that ultamately make the band more culpable?
And hey aren't they from Sweden or something? I wonder what the signifigance of the d word is there culturaly. Is it commonly used in a phrase in that context or is it still culturaly a bad word....

Yeah, but we have to go into the context of the bible all the time too because certain areas may appear controversial, but they really aren't. That whole song is about the way that the big city life style of LA has overshadowed the creation of God. It says it right there in the song. They probably even forshadowed people criticizing them for the use of the word, but they didn't have any personal conviction about it.

but it is culturaly a swear word. give it this test. Would I say that word in it's so called "biblical meaning" in my bible study group? Would my pastor use that word in his sermon? I would say the answer is no for 2 reasons. 1. cultural profanity 2. who am I to declare damnation upon anything
If you want to look at the roots of a word the c word came from the inventor of the toilet John Crapper. Does that mean I should run around blabbing that word? No. And when I do (and yes I do occasionally), I feel really convicted about saying it. In fact thier are plenty of words that aren't profanity but are just plain not nice and I shouldn't use them.

ok here's the difference. if you are directly saying something like "unbelievers will suffer eternal damnation" or "they will be damned for thier unbelief". no prob. but if you say "d it" or "d you" or "that d dog" which is the same usage as "it's a d cold night" that is using it in a culturaly profane way. When used as an adverb about something or someone it's bad.

Here, this is what I see of taht word, like many have said, It means damnation, but, like also has been said, our sin is damned, but to me, we have no right to damn anything, only God, like our sin. And saying that is an abuse of the word, just like freakin or friggin, is a susbtute of the F word. But, damn is a more powerful word, and like I said, only God should say is. oh I totally agree with you, it's not my place to place damnation on anything. Legalism smeagleism, whether they say it is in context the way it was used is not. bad choice of words. Like I said maybe where they are from it's no big deal. And if that's the case then the label bears responsibility. Any christian label in the US would have said "you know here that is a bad thing to say, we shouldn't use that. There's plenty of other ways to say it". It's possible that the label took advantage of the situation. Personally I think they just didn't care. But really does my opinion matter....lololol hey if I can't laugh at myself I would be a pretty dull person...

Yeah, it just sounded like you were saying, "Because Blindside says damn in their song, they are no londer a part of Christian culture, and thereby are not Christian." And even if you don't by the album because they say the "d" word is like me coming to this forum and saying, "I'm not coming back to this thread ever again because you say damn, hell, and God too much," or even, "at all."
Or say for instance I came to this thread, and I was an immature Christian, and I said the "d" word or even more extreme curse words pretty frequently, should you condemn me? No, why would you want your brother to continue to stumble, instead you would treat me with love and gentleness, kindly exhorting me in love, and rebuking that behavior, because the Bible says to tame the tongue.
In the same way, instead of ostricizing Blindside as brothers, state your opinion even on their message boards, get a big enough following of people sharing your same concern. If there are enough of the fans that are as concerned as you are, the band will have to listen. It's there fan base! CD sales could drop! They're not even that big in the first place!
But I, personally think that they are not in sin. I believe that Blindside is a band that follows their convictions, and have stated that to me in their interviews, and I think that they have looked at this issue, and were not convicted by the Spirit, and continued to add this lyric into the song.

I actually post regularly on the boards, and true, they're not perfect but they're a heck of alot better than they used to be. here's the link anyway http://forums.blindsideonline.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=650104&f=250107&m=5381011

i dont see the problem. the king james bible says damn and ass. but its not vulgar because its being used in the correct context. christian said damn in the correct context in the song so its completely ok. somone earlier asked if we see our pastor saying damn during a sermon.. well i do, and infact ive seen it. its nothing wrong though because its used in the correct context. and now to say a sentence with words sometimes used as curse words but infact im using them in the correct context...
Bob was damned to hell. I rode into the mountains on an ass. we need to buy a ***** inorder to start our dog breeding business.

If you were using it in the correct context, why the asterisks? I agree w/you btw.

recently Will has added a filter that changes some words to asterisks. that's why.

Interesting fact:my 24 year old aunt is going to walk down the isle(when she gets married in laman's terms)to Shekina, and I think she said she wanted me to sing it, even the high parts...(*nervous*);)

I wasn't really impressed with their latest cd. I heard their older cd was better, and from what I've heard, it was.
