This was a particularly difficult thread to place. But I stand by what I say when I say that these sites are about the music in video games, and not technically the games themselves. So I am guessing it belongs here.
I know that there are very few of us here that go to these websites and download free music from video games, but it's worth making a thread about them.
For those who don't know what I'm talking about, I am referring to OverClocked ReMix (http://www.ocremix.org), a video game music community that is very analytical about the music they accept, and VideoGameMix (http://www.vgmix.com), a much less critical, but nonetheless great video game music community.
So, who out there downloads the mixes besides me (and obviously Raven)? Who's your favorite Mixer, since they both seem to share the same artists? I'm a big Ailsean and bLiNd fan. Feel free to post about any video game music.

LOL! How did I know this would pop up one day? ::]
Ok, as far as favorite remixers, I like Game Over, AmIEvil, and DJ Pretzel the most. But I also really like Protricity, virt, Scott Peeples, McVaffe, Beatdrop, and a bunch of others.
And as long as we can discuss any videogame music, has anyone heard or noticed the music in Prince of Persia Warrior Within? :o Awesome stuff!

It took you approximately 12 minutes to reply. WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?? ;)
No, you lucky dog, I'm too busy working. Trust me, if I had my hands on PoP:WW I would definitely not be working. :P
I also like Spekkosaurus, Orkybash, AmIEvil, djpretzel, McVaffe, Scott Peeples, Beatdrop, and many, many more.

LOL! What can I say? I had just finished playing PoP: WW and had to get something to eat finally. :P :D
 Neener neener neener!! :P :D I'm kidding! (let you in on a secret: PoP: WW looks awesome and some of the fighting moves are cool, but the gameplay is frustrating >:( )
Hmmmmm, why do I get the feeling that the two of us are gonna have the most posts in this thread? ;D

Oh well. Let the OC ReMixes PLAY ON!!! ;D

Gonna have to go with BigShellWestBristol (Metal Gear Solid 2) - BenCousins (OCR)
Ever heard it?

Nope. I haven't gotten as far as M in my almost-every-song search. I'm stuck on F right now. SO MANY FINAL FANTASY MIXES!! :o
How many compilation disks do you have? 8)
animeraven34
12-04-2004, 04:20 PM
Too many it seems like. ::] Plus when I first started I forgot to label them! :-[ ::]
Heh heh heh, just wait till you get to Metroid and Super Metroid! ;) Speaking of, have you checked out Relics of the Chozo? 8)

12-04-2004, 04:21 PM
No, that involves some Torrent thing... but I want to!
I already have been to Super Metroid and Metroid on OCR. I skipped to my favorites first.
Do you use bit torrents?
animeraven34
12-04-2004, 04:28 PM
Nope. Don't really know how the heck it works. ???
That's odd. Last year you could just download the songs from one of several lists on different links. I had all the songs from Relics of the Chozo but deleted them. :-[ >:( ::] Well, you can always get RotC on CD ya know.
Have you gotten any of the Metroid (Prime, Fusion, Super, Zero Mission, etc.) songs on VGMix?

No, I just went there last night, but I look forward to it.
Anything good?

12-04-2004, 04:34 PM
I haven't gotten much of the Metroid stuff, just one from Fusion that was on their Stuff Of Legends tier. It is pretty good I'll admit. But the one I got from there, so far, that has really impressed me is Blood of Ganon by virt. It's an awesome combination of 4 Zelda songs from 3 games, the result is a 6 1/2 minute Zelda metal mix. 8)

I know. I wasn't so fond of it. :-\
I know it probably doesn't help that every time I hear it I'm nauseous (dang illnesses), but it wasn't what I was expecting after hearing so much hype over it. It's O.K., it's worthy of a 4-star rating, but it wasn't as amazing as I was expecting. Maybe I need to hear it more to get used to it. All that hype, I was expecting a riff from Ailsean or Goat (who, by the way, rocks).
I'll listen to it more, but I was hoping for better. :-\

I can understand how you feel, I think it's good but it could have been a heck of a lot better. Sadly that's the best I've gotten so far. If you wanna hear some good Zelda metal go to Game Over's site and check out their sample.
Well, I'm off. Don't think I'll come back tonight, I have PoP and you need to work I'm assuming. Guess I'll talk to you tommorow.

LOL. If I had PoP:WW I'd be in your shoes... I definitely wouldn't return for some time... :o
And yes, I have a lot of work to do, I even added more to my plate last night. ::] Oh well. See you whenever. 8)
...And yes, it could have been a whole lot better. Like I said, VGM's standards are a lot lower.

Do you use bit torrents?
Last time I installed the Bit Torrent program I got a whole bunch of adware... but WAIT! There's more! It also came with it's very own... TROJAN VIRUS! Since then I've never trusted Bit Torrent...
I looked at the site once and saw that it involved some Bit Torrent software, so I figured that it probably wasn't worth installing it. Can I download from OCR without Bit Torrent software?
disciple
12-04-2004, 05:40 PM
Yes, you can. Just go to the song you want to download, then click the download button, then click to listen to the song from whichever site you want to (it usually has a list, like OC ReMix, some music college, etc.)
As you listen it downloads the song. If you stop it before it finishes the song will delete itself. If you like the song, hear it all the way through, then right-click on the site you want to download it from, and click "Save Target As..." and it will download immediately!
It's that easy! ;D
Or if you assume you'll already like it, skip the listening process. It takes a couple minutes - depending on length - but it's aaaall worth it, baby! ;D

Wow, I'm really glad someone posted this here, because I've always wondered if people re-did video game music in today's music styles. This is really cool! I like CarboHydroM's work a lot. Also, virt's Blood of Ganon (thanks animeraven34! *thumbs up*) is really good.

I don't know about really good, but it is good. If you want to hear some really, really good Nintendo Metal you should check out these: Mega Man 3 Cataclysmic Clash, and Punch Out!! Little Mac's Confession (both are by a band called Game Over).

Ah, but there ARE good video game songs on OCR with lyrics (ignore Ghetto Lee Lewis' take on Zelda, it's sick).
Star Salzman (http://www.starblast.org)'s take on a theme from Mega Man X was good. The song itself was about playing video games! ;D It's silly, but it's cool that way. He made both the music and the lyrics enjoyable. Silly song, but also very good. Unique.
Joe Redifer did a song off of a theme from Final Fantasy (I don't know which game, maybe 4 or 6), and it's HILARIOUS. Called ROBOvoice. A computer sings the entire song. IT's about people who are narrow-minded and only play Final Fantasy. I know, Final Fantasy fans get upset about it, but what is life without a couple laughs? He also made the song kinda catchy by adding a whipser between verses. ("FI-NAL FAN-TA-sy, FInal FANTasy, FI-nal FAN-ta-SY, FINAL FANTASY")

If I even began posting anything remotely resembling a favorites list of music from OCR, it would be intolerably long. Seriously, you guys wouldn't take the time to read it.
But I will say that Spekkio The Brave (http://www.ocremix.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00889) is an AWESOME happy song!! ;D ;D

I don't like to bump up old threads, but I'll do it this time - just this time.
I have a reason for reviving it: The head honcho of OC ReMix did an interview (http://www.mp3.com/games/remix_interview.html) with someone from MP3.com - that's pretty big, lemme tell ya. The Interview was released on OCReMix.org's 5th anniversary - not intentionally, either.
