I used to watch The Simpsons all the time, still do from time to time. I don't think it's that bad a show personally. There is FAR worse on TV.

seriously there is, but its not too bad, some of the episodes are offensive, like when Homer said "I wish God was alive to see this." I know it was made off to be stupid, but it's offensive. So i think its just up to personal connviction.

Used to watch it all the time. But when I heard Bart say "Kinda like how Christians suck up to God!" I turned it off. There is better stuff on T.V. to watch. Most of the time. ;) I still occasionally watch it, if it's not outrageous.

well, I felt that it was screwing up my relationship with God, so I cut it, and then i found Family guy, which is hilarious, but one episode Peter got drunk and said God was trying to turn everyuone into zombies and a bunch of other stuff and later in the episode he said "Godd*** Easter bunny trying to steal Easter from Jesus." and it was pointless... so like I said, its just kinda personal conviction...

It's not that bad of a show. Honestly, don't tell me you've never made a joke about God not really meaning it, just joking. Like that Comic with God having a computer and on the monitor is a guy walking under a piano and God's finger is going to a key on the keyboard labeled 'Smite'. Nothin on these shows is serious. If you get really offended over the small stuff, don't watch it. One of my most memorable moments from the 'Simpsons' was from episode where Homer became a missionary to escape PBS. #1 when he was thrown on a plane and told he was becoming a missionary and he said "But I don't even believe in Jebus!" And then #2 when the plane took off and he yelled, "Saavvveee mee Jeeebuuussss!". I found it so funny he didn't even know the right name!

But really, like I said, if you get offended easily, don't watch it. I'd get upset of 7th Heaven, a show that is supposed to be serious, before I got upset of the 'Simpsons'.

I can't stand 7th heaven anymore. It's like an episode of my family's life... except not as explicit.

i don't care. the simpsons is actually the only tv show i will watch, i refuse to watch anything else (that includes all the new garbage reality tv and stupid television dramas aka teen soap operas like one tree hill). so...it's the simpsons all the way (and futurama...)

loner_33
01-10-2005, 03:32 PM
For some reason, I don't think I find Futurama as offensive as the Simpsons. I watch it every now and then, but the TV in my house is normally on Tech TV, but now it's all screwed up since G4 moved in. Now the TV's on TBS, at the hands of my brother. Neither of us can stand reality shows or teen dramas. They are pointless garbage that don't need to be forced into confused teen minds.

I think that any show that makes negitive remarks about God or christians shouldn't be watched. I've never watched the show myself but from reading some of the coments from you guys about what goes on in the show it sounds like it isn't a good show. I for one am glad that I listened to my parents and never watched it.
-Just my opinion tho-

i used to watch the Simpsons all the time but then i kinda just got bored of it but then my brothers bought the Family Guy DVD's and i watched that all the time. It can be really funny if you can get past the stupidity of it. But one Family Guy episode actually disgusted me where Peter was plotting to tell Lois a lie and Brian, the dog was talking him out of it bc it was so unbelievable so peter said "I've gotten people to believe crazier things" and it goes to this scen where he was talking to a bunch of little kids in a Sunday school room and said "so when you die, you go to a beautiful place called heaven" so all the little kids perked up with big eyes and then peter burst out laughing saying "im just playing you, you just rot in the ground". I don't know, that just crossed the line for me so i don't watch it much anymore.

bob
01-28-2005, 11:41 AM
well, on one episode Peter got drunk, climbed up a christmas tree ina santa suit and declared he was Jesus, and God wanted to eat your souls... so I stopped watching after that

ya thats another one. Actually, there's alot! What is it with Christian bashing. Like, u barely ever hear people bashing other religions because it would be considered prejudice but if u bash Christianity then all of a sudden its supposed to be funny? (not to say that other religions don't get it as well, i am pretty aware of geniside {sp?} in other countries for belonging to a certain religion and a few mainstream shots at them as well)

it's a simple fact. you make fun of the mainstream. if we were a Mulsim democracy that allowed freedom of speech, Family Guy'd be making fun of them. it's the same reason SNL makes fun of each president, he's mainstream, everyone can laugh with them without feeling like they're being (too) mean.

Glad to hear you're trying to stop :) . I know it's hard to stop something you've been doing for so long but sometimes you just need to stand firm. And as for you brothers just tell them you don't want to hear what it was about. That doesn't mean they wont say it anyway but atleast you tryed. If you find yourself wanting to watch it just go do something else that will take your mind off it.

Boy howdy! The older episodes are so much better...it seems like the new ones just push too hard to be funny. I used to watch it all the time because my best friend watched it and got me into the show (sometime in late elementary, early middle school). I don't watch it so much anymore but I like to watch one of the older episodes now and then. It really is funny, despite the Christian stereotypes now and then. Like that episode when Ned fell in love with that one Christian singer chick and she said that her band abandoned her and went to secular music. "They just replaced the 'Jesus' in the songs with 'baby'" I thought that was funny because it's true that it's easy for Christian music to get secularized. But yeah, if you don't watch the show by now then you probably never will. lol. But I like it personally. And I just DON'T watch family guy anymore because it was funny at first but now they're just being too blatant. :-X

there are multiple writers for the Simpsons and they vary depending upon the season. for example, Conan O'Brien was a write for them at one point.

the reason i wasn't allowed to watch the Simpsons was because of the anti-family values. the dad of one of my friends went to a convention (don't remember what it was for) where Matt Groening and others spoke and had a question/answer time afterward. he asked why Groening was so anti-family and Groening didn't give a good answer (that it, didn't dispute it or say why).
