i only like a few of their songs. i can play the beginning of 'nothing else matters' (w/e, i don't know the title for sure!) on my guitar! i'm so proud. but you have to admire the way that they've stayed popular and just stayed around period.

well now that's where your wrong CJ. I would be very interested in an analysis of Metalica musicaly speaking from you. Analysis of the talent of them on thier instruments both as a group and as individual musicians. And I would add vocals as an instrument. But also of them lyricaly. Where thier strengths and weaknesses are in each catagory. However doing so only using secular examples of influences like early to pre-90's stuff or christian music any era. Cuz hey I havent' listened to secular music for almost 12 years and wouldn't be able to understand the modern comparasons. Now you don't have to do this but it would definately be worth reading. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one to enjoy it.

I think Metallica are awesomely talented. But I think Lars is a prissy queen for shutting down Napster. [still holding a grudge.]

they are quite talented. They were definitely pioneers of metal. But that doesn't mean I like their music lol

I have to say I like their music a lot, but I'm more into their older stuff than the new stuff. Their newer stuff is a getting too "industrial" sounding for me. I'm not really into that sound.

for those of you who do like metallica at all ive got another question since everyone is bringing it up what is your favorite mettalica sound the older 80s sound the mid 90s sound or the newest and stupidest ST anger sound?

skynes

Old 80s definitely. The St Anger stuff is horrible.

Why CJ Doesn't Like Metallica
By: CJ

They came with blaring guitars and long hair. A contribution to all heavy metal everywhere. An inspiration to musicians from all parts of the globe with their extremely distorted sounds. I was first introduced to Metallica back in 1991 with the release of the Black album and the song Enter Sandman; their first real taste of mainstream success. 80's "hair bands" and Europop were starting to become a thing of the past as Heavy Metal and Grunge were taking over the scene. We were amazed and astounded by these heavy rockers and they became an inspiration for all musicians. My being a drummer at the time, instantly wanted to learn how to play the Metallica classic "one" with it's heavy doublebass kick. We collected all the Metallica classics. "And Justice For All" and "Master of Puppets" were my 2 favorites, and for a long while into the early 90's, they were a great hit.

Four years later after the success of the Black album, Metallica comes out with a new and highly anticipated album, Load. Thus begins the downfall of a great band. Load lacked in everything from sound to creativity. Not long after the release of Load, comes a second poor excuse to make money, ReLoad. By this time though, the Metallica hype was damaged due to their failure to meet peoples expectations with their previous album. Thus, they become very angry and need somewhere to vent on.

Their target: Napster

Due to more of uncreativity (is that a word?) they get angry and start blaming a new technology (It wasn't really all that new, but not as many people knew about it) called MP3, where someone could rip a song from a cd into a playable audio format on their computers. Assuming that people actually wanted to download their album in the first place, they started up several lawsuits against the peer to peer server to close them down and stop people from trading Metallica mp3s (again, assuming people actually wanted them to begin with). This lawsuit was the beginning of giving the mp3 a bad rep and also pushing Metallica's main focus to one thing, GREED.

Skipping over the next few albums in line as they are completely insignificant, we go to their newest release, St. Anger. I think that the DJ on the radio in Rhode Island said it best after playing the whole album on air the night of it's release. ".......long silence.......I'm sorry that I had to put you guys through that......this radio station as you know does not play crap, so you have my word that from this day forward, you will never hear another song from that album played on this station ever again." Gone were the awesome riffs that made Metallica what they were. Instead of maturing their sound as they changed, they went off the deep end going with what sound was popular at the time. Now I am one to agree that music changes over the years and that you need to keep up with something fresh to keep people listening, but at the same time, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Metallica cares nothing about their fans or their music, only money. They canceled their US tour for the simple fact that they wanted to stay in Canada in tour because they were selling out shows. That's just not right...

So to sum this up cause I'm tired, Metallica has no respect for their fans or their own music. They are controlled by greed. This is why CJ dislikes Metallica.

CJ

P.S. If any of this sounds sketchy, I'll fix it in the morning. Ima go pass out now. kthxbye

very nice CJ, not what I expected, and yet you surprise me again. I saw Metallica live 12 years ago. I was 4 months pregnant at the time. My hubby and I rededicated just after the birth of our first daughter and haven't really listened to secular music since then. Occasionaly my hubby will put an oldie on but it's a rarity. But after reading what you wrote I would've come to the same conclusion. If thier music began to stink then forget listening to them. Concerning Napster I think (I did follow the news on this) that they were also trying to get some publicity. However whoever urged them to sue must have been as brain dead as they are to think that it wasn't going to completely backfire on them... So here's a tip for all those who would love to be in a signed band-don't bite the hand that feeds you... In this case the fans..

Creeping Death. A song about the Exodus. Maybe non-christian. But certainly not "non-seeking."
