This link is to an international competition open only to students. General jist is that you and a team of 4 others, in the 10 weeks of Mid-June to late-August have to make a computer game to demonstration status, not complete. Just something to show.

I'm heavily considering entering for my Final year at Uni (2 years from now).

I know it's a bit early, but I want it soaked in prayer for then, if God wants me to enter, who to be in my team, the game ideas etc.

I won't be using the Hunters or Legacy of Numach. Whatever you enter with becomes the property of Dare to be Digital until your team can get it published or something. I'd rather not risk my big ideas with it.

So can I count on the members here to pray for me about it?

I know that's a bit of a silly question, but I'm asking for long-term prayer on this.

sure, no prayer is to small or not important enough
I will be praying,

Of course I'll pray for you! This is a big opportunity for you. I know it might sound silly to most, but I totally understand it.

I didn't mean it was a silly thing to ask :P What I meant to convey is that I'm asking for long-term prayer on this. Preferably until I enter and finish. :P

Thank you for your prayers. I really appreciate it.

I know that. I asked for people's long-term prayer for my novel... still sounds silly to me. :P

It's been two years now. I officially entered this competition with a team.

Our application go through and we got to the interview.

We were phoned mid-afternoon to tell us we'd got through.

Absolutely.

I have had so much difficulty this past month. So many obstacles in the way... but EVERY single time the obstacle was defeated before I got anywhere near it! That is God

I hope you get some sort of reward.

You get £1700 ($3400) for taking part.
The best game gets £5000 ($10,000) for the team.
Then there's individual stuff like best programmer, most commercially viable, netting around £1500 ($3000)

The Lamma
04-27-2007, 07:52 AM
Sweetness, so you get cash no matter what? I'm guessing that you have to qualify to get the cash, though. :P I still want to see it sometime. Any screenshots? Or at least type of gameplay?

The Lamma

I know that you qualified. But I want screenshots AFTER you start. :P Thats why I also asked game play style, if you have any idea.

A Pirate version of Micro Machines. Lots of naval warfare...

Oh and you're in a bathtub.

Check out Google (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=micro%20machines&btnG=Google+Search&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi) for the answer to that question. *shakes head* You must not be a child of the '80s. Or you lived in a log cabin for the first years of your life, sequestered away from the world at large.

Scott, Godspeed to ya. It couldn't happen to a better Irishman. :)

The Lamma
05-14-2007, 11:32 AM
Aye, I'm a child of 1412. Err...Lol. When I was a kid, I didn't even know what a computer was, much less know that video games existed, and I knew nothing of rock, and other stuff. The only technology I knew was cars, construction vehicles, lights, and the TV. :P *checks Google* So its an old video game?

skynes
05-14-2007, 11:57 AM
It's not even that old, it started in the 80s and the most recent game is either XBox or XBox 360

The Lamma
05-14-2007, 02:25 PM
Really? Tells you what I know about xbox...Lol.

So far this competition has been hell. Nothing has went right. Kicked when I'm down.

DarkestRose
06-13-2007, 01:04 AM
That's a bummer! I'll continue praying for you.

skynes
06-13-2007, 01:39 AM
To put it into a serious perspective, I'll say this:

My passion for games design is dead.

DarkestRose
06-13-2007, 01:52 AM
That REALLY is a bummer! What happened?

skynes
06-13-2007, 01:57 AM
What happened?

Everything. Murphy's Law kicked in full force.

Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong and in worse degree that we could imagine.

DarkestRose
06-13-2007, 01:59 AM
That sounds really, really bad. I'll keep praying for you.

The Lamma
06-13-2007, 12:03 PM
Whoa!! Don't give up, man. Like Colonel Jack O'Neil from Stargate said, "If at first you don't succeed...try, try, try, try, try again." :P

skynes
06-13-2007, 01:37 PM
"If at first you don't succeed...try, try, try, try, try again"

And eventually I'm gonna get tired of it all. Quit my job just to kiss a girl, draw faces with ketchup and play golf through a wormhole :)

The Lamma
06-13-2007, 02:37 PM
Heheh, I didn't know he drew faces with ketchup...But the wormhole thing was great. How about this: get tired and give up AFTER you're done. :P

DarkestRose
06-14-2007, 02:00 AM
If not game design, what is it you plan on doing then?

skynes
06-14-2007, 03:28 AM
No idea. I have no backup plan.

These past two days have been significantly better. We're getting along better now, working together and accomplishing more.

DarkestRose
06-14-2007, 03:35 AM
Well, see, maybe things are going to pick up and this was just a rough spot. I'll keep praying for you.

The Lamma
06-14-2007, 08:40 AM
Most things start with rough spots. Learning to get along is a key factor, and once you accomplish that, things won't be so bad.

I should say: I'm a member of Artificial Entertainment, the first team on the video. I'm not the OTHER Scott.

DarkestRose
06-18-2007, 06:40 AM
I recognized you from your profile pic on Panheads and the one on your Myspace. But I was all, "Whoa, there's another Scott!" when the second team came out.

Edit: I'm also impressed that you can snap your fingers and disappear Scott. I can't even snap my fingers very well. ;)

I can't hear the sound! ARGH! I'll have to watch again when I get my computer hooked up.

I have been praying for you and the team, Scott. I'm praying for divine inspiration and for you to have a renewed passion for what you do.

Made a big accomplishment for me today.

Camera control!

Allow me to explain.

Cameras are the necessity and death of 3D games. How many games do you walk near a wall, turn around and find the camera INSIDE the wall. Too often. It sucks.

Our game had a few places that could happen. Namely the bath edge. Position the boat near the baths edge and rotate. You'll find the camera outside the bath, very bad.

So we've been spending a lot of time trying to detect this collision and reposition the camera to stop.

At 10am'ish this morning, I got it working. You hit the bath and the camera slides higher and looks lower. So it hits a near 2nd person view.

To many that's not a big thing. To me it's a huge accomplishment.

---

Edit: We just finished filming the second (technically third cause we missed the first) video blog. We plan to up the Ante every single week. So this time will be even funnier than the last! I'll post a link when it's live.

That is so cool! I don't know if I could ever be that in-depth in working with computers. That is really awesome.

Skynes, I know what you mean by the camera control stuff. That is quite the accomplishment. I've played many high-end games that the camera sometimes either goes through a wall or through your character's head.

Did the new accomplishment help to renew your desire for this project?

I'm enduring it and looking forward to the more fun bits of the Project, namely shooting the face off things with power ups...
