you hear the word emo alot lately. i was wondering what exaclty emo is and what defines emo. thanks...

Emo (the music style) was originally just a way to describe high-pithced male vocals and personal lyrics. Now, it typically means a band with a fast tempo and drums, with deep-meaning lyrics (I think). There's so many different meanings for it.

actually, I wondered the same thing, so ya, I think I got what it means now.

emo the stereotype. It has a lot to do with the haircuts and such, dyed black, cut high over the ears, that sort of thing. And the music is self explanitory. High 1st tenor vocals, and basic chord progressions

emo is emtional emo music is basicly lyrics writen forms omething that happen in there life emo the label is like realy sad emtional kids that are like realy poetic about everything that goes on.

Xian= Christian. X=Christ. Not a Jewish Christ...but just Christ. I see where you would get Jewish Christian from though.

Pleeease don't bring this up... :-X but since you asked..,

just cuz someone has treated you poorly doesnt mean everyone is like that. and if emo really means emotional and comes out of that, then why COULDN'T emos be christian?? just like with everything else out there... there are some people who are christians and some who aren't. your "category" doesn't make you one or the other.

I just wanted to have an honest discussion. Seeing how emos have a tendency to be depressive and dwelling upon sadness. I was just wondering if there are self proclaimed "christian emo kids" who are emo but with a twist. Would they still be emo? Would they whine and complain still if they could delight in God's glory? Seems somewhat contradictory to me. Which is why I wanted to discuss this.

You are right. Just because ive been treated badly doesnt mean all emo's are like that. However, one bad experience is enough to drive a non christian away from Xianity forever. Just a thought about human psychosis and behaviour.

Another thought: Is Emo purely a style, an art, a way of dress, a state of being, music? What is it? Is it just being emotional? Aren't we all capable of being fully expressive of emotion? Would that make us all emo?

My common sense has been telling me: Emo started out as well, emotion/s. Then some people said "hey let's make music to go with this". So they called it emo rock. As for art it's the same. Really, I don't know...I made that up.

k sorry i probly sound like a complete idiot but what's emo? and i have a prblem with all the "xian" stuff cuz well i know it's like a short form or whetever and if u make another word short i'd be fine but with this you're cutting out CHRIST which if you are a Christian should be the point the basis the reason the whatever u wanna call it for your life so i think you should never cut it out i always capatilize it to help me realize how important Jesus Christ really should be in my life but ya sorry if i sound kinda stcuk up or anything

True, I didn't think about that. However, it's about the hair... not just emo in general. There's a difference. Not to mention, that thread HAS been locked in the past.

I'll try my best since I am probably considered emo or scene. The people themselves aren't usually depressed. More or so it's their music. The "depressed/i cut myself" is just a common stereotype. Cutting has existed since the times of the Bible. I still have yet to meet and emo who cuts themselves.

My church is filled with Christian emos. There are hundreds of Christian emo bands out there. I dont know how they couldnt be Christian. Part of being Christian means that you do have flaws and you do make mistakes its just your are willing to accept Someone as your savior. Just because you have emotions doesnt mean you aren't Christian. Everyone has emotions (even Christians, if you didnt you would be wierd) and some people just choose to express or carry them out differently. Such as writing songs on how they feel.

No, it wouldnt make us emo if we have emotions, it would make us human. But for your other question, I guess its different for everybody. Like me for example. I dress emo, I listen to a little bit of emo (mainly screamo) and at times I can be emotional. But its different for everybody.
