yeah skillet.com was down too, i experienced it... and at one point it said some new server had just been installed to panheads.org and that the site would be up shortly... if they do stuff like that it would be great if they told us ahead of time...

yes, there have been some pretty major server problems that last few days. Believe me, I'm more frustrated than anyone about it, and am working on getting things a little more stable. Anyone who's been around here for a while knows that I always try very hard to let everyon know when changes are going to happen... if I had known about this one in advance, I would have let you all know.

Additionally, it looks like some people's avatars are still a little messed up... I have no idea what happened with that, and can only suggest that you upload them again.

Will already said it, but outgoing IP's do tend to have a set number they fluctuate in that produces slight differences at the end like that.

has nothing to do with "outgoing" (not even sure what you mean by that). It has to do with whether you have a static or dynamic IP address. Most ISPs give you a dynamic IP (which will likely be different each time you get online). Most servers have static (they never change). The server these sites are on has 28 static IPs, which can be split up however we choose.

it's kinda weird... there's nothing wrong with the code. It's pulling from an RSS feed on skillet.com and sometimes it works, and sometimes it gets an error.

Outgoing is your IP address :P. This can be different than the ip you see when checking ipconfig. Most people, yes, have dynamic addresses, which usually fluctuate within a certain set of numbers designated by the Internet Service Provider. 216.183.164.111 & 216.183.164.103 could feasibly be one example of that, or two very similar static addresses.

This can be different than the ip you see when checking ipconfig.Ahh, I see what you're talking about now... if, for example, you have a local network that is sharing a single internet connection. I think a better term for that is "public-facing" or "external" IP address. Either of these imply a location whereas "outgoing" implies a direction, which is a bit misleading. *shrug* not really the point of this discussion anyway :)

The server has a 27 bit subnet assigned to it which consists of 32 IP addresses. Out of the 32 IP addresses 30 are usable and 1 is normally used for your gateway, so that leaves you with 28 usable. So in this case the network is as follows:

216.183.164.96/27 Mask 255.255.255.224
216.183.164.97 - Gateway
216.183.164.98-126 - Assigned to server

That's why I'm still in school ;). Outgoing's the term I've usually used before...all 5 other times it was relevant. Crazy thing I've noticed lately (might be fixed now...kinda got used to ignoring it), the front page of panheads.org seems to be displayed wrong with code showing the first time I visit it on IE for some reason. I have no idea why...

edit: Anyone else notice how I originally posted this thread in April of 2005, and thin it was revived in April 2006. Maybe it's just a bad month, April Fool's n' all ::].

Maybe they clean the servers in April and forget to put everything back where they found it (or just sweep everything under the rug)?
