My friend Sara, is a pretty aweosme person like shes nice and stuff but right now she's in that "teenage rebellious anti-bush non conformist"phase. Right now shes annoying the crap outta me with things like "i dont listen to skillet/greenday anymore because too many people like them. Even though I like them" and stuff like that. Then she starts critizing me for being a conformist because im wearing these Puma shoes who I only know like 2 other people with the same type of shoe. On the other hand, shes wearing converse who everyone has (by the way, im not trying to critisize anyone who wears converse, i think converse are cool)
So anyways, what are your views on conformity? Im just wondering bacause people are upsest with it at my school and its getting annoying. I thik people should listen to the music they want or wear what cloths they want, it doesnt really matter what everyone else thinks.

I agree. Who cares what other people think and if they do they really shouldn't. My goodness this is so ridicolous its funny. And just because others like the same band just means that the band might actually have talent and obviously they have good taste if its skillet :).sigh', Like whatever you want if people don't like it oh well don't let them change you.

BTW it annoys the crap outta me when people wear Converse because they are cool. Please be in the "scene" before you got them. I really am not that picky about scenes and crap...but when it comes to certain things...

She's trying so hard to be a non-conformist she ends up being like everyone else. We're all alike but we have our individual quirks. It's life, it's overrated, just do what you feel like.

Exactly, it is rediculous, especially the way she acts. She goes "I like TFK and Pillar a lot, but now since so many people like them, I dont want to conform" she doesnt realize that she cant completely be a non conformist. I mean shes not the only one who wears converse and likes Emo and is mad a Bush right now.

You're right, you can't completely be a non-conformist. I don't think she gets this whole concept. Just because she wears converse and is mad at Bush doesn't make her 'unique'. I see it everyday.

she so reminds of my cousin, right now. I think its just a phase she'll and my cousin will grow out of. I hope heh heh. ;) Only way, is spiritually can she not conform to the ways of this world but thats a diffrent matter.Since were talking about clothes, music, and life in general. Their(non conformist) gonna end up looking the same anyways no matter how diffrent they try to be. lol As skelfy illustated above with the zebras. so true.

honestly i think there are so many people who are all like "i'm not conforming" that they create thier own conformity group.. they want to say they are different when there are thousands of other people acting just like them.. its not non-conformity.. honestly just stand up for what you believe like what you like dont try to be someone your not just to be different than other people

Yes i think it is a phase too, though whoever though of the word conformist, really should of taken more time into it. This word is abused.

Ah... people who conform to non-conformity. It makes me conform to laughing. Non-conformists may label me as a conformer to the group that makes fun of other people. As if I hang out with them. Which probably makes me a conformer to the group that never hangs out with each other but is connected by statistics. That comment will probably earn me a label as a conformer to the group that likes to turn people into numbers. But then, I don't even know the meaning of conformity. Which probably conforms me to ignorance...
I hate both terms. They're so overused. Plus, it's becoming a huge trend to be nonconformist, which is ironically conforming to a societal norm.

And you're right.
She'll get over it. Just be yourself around her and I'm sure she'll see how illogical and lame indie-coolness and non-conformity is.
You could drive her nuts with a C.S. Lewis quote- "No man (or woman) who values originality will ever be original."

Seriously and when people say things like "Im being differnet by wearing these clothes." It makes me chuckle. Haha no your not. I mean like did these people ever come to think that these clothes they buy at Hot Topic or target or whatever arent one-of-a-kinds. The company sells a whole lot of them so they can make a profit, you may be the only one is your school wearing these clothes but you certainly can call yourself different or a non-conformist.

'You non-conformists are all alike'.
Yeah, I had an awesome pin from Hot Topic that said that, but I lost it...(I have my purse strap covered in pins, and they fall off from time to time)
I cannot STAND people who deliberalty TRY to be different. I have a lot of friends who are very critical about music, and all they listen to is obscure indie rock bands that no one likes. If something is liked by the general populace, that DOESN'T mean it's BAD. If something is good, it's good, so I feel no shame in liking the bands/clothes/movies that I like. I won't apologize for my predilections...

"so I feel no shame in liking the bands/clothes/movies that I like." I totally agree, you should like the clothes and movies and bands of how you like them, not worrying if anybody else likes the same think as I do.
