Hey all I am new to this site I am not however new to skillet.
I was introduced to them when my dad popped their "Invincible" album into the truck cd player. I was hooked.

But anyways I just wanted to start a topic about all the wierd and goofy things John Cooper has said at past concerts and such.

I know someone has a quote on their profile or whatever which says something about God loving rock music but hating country! Im assuming that was John Cooper who said that.

But anyways I just wanted to add my own. When I was at Kingdom Bound 2002 @ Darien Lake John Cooper actually took a little time between songs to witness a bit! It was real k0ol. At one point he said he went and saw the starwars movie with a character named emporer duku.

He said something to the effect of "Why ? of all the names they could have used why did they choose duku?" he then said "Emporer duku...sounds like emporer doodoo...teehee"
We later met up with skillet (my friends kelly and stacey) and stacey got her pants signed by the band and we had a picture taken with them. I saw another quote saying "a ticket to skillet concert 15$, a skillet t-shirt 35$ ...finally meeting your favorite band and not having anything witty or interesting to say...priceless"...or something to that effect...I have to agree. Kelly looked at John and said "All this time while standing in line to meet you I have been thinking of something witty to say but my mind has been blank the whole time" John then replied "thats whitty enough for me"

I look forward to their new album. They played a few song from it this past KB..(2003) They really have come a looong way and Im sure have a long history ahead of them.

Go Skillet!

-Steve ;D

The best one of em all "My baby is cuter than all your babies!"

I remember one time, we were just setting up the stage and taking things out of the truck. One guy asked John is Alex was with them and right out of the blue, he goes "Yeah, and shes cuter than all your babies". ehehe

I also liked when he said about country music... see below in my tagline. ;)

John is multi-talented. He can sing, play, and can be a very funny guy! Alot of rock bands dont crack jokes or act silly because they got to maintain that "Im sooo cool" status and look, but I guess all bands cant be as cool as Skillet. ;)

Hehe, I first found out about Skillet at a concert, there were a bunch of other bands there (everyday sunday, casting crowns, etc.) and they said a band called Skillet was comin up next, so i listened, and jumped around, and generaly rocked myself into being a great fan. anyway I just wanted to share this story that i had: The concert was in florida and they had played in georgia that afternoon so they drove down the whole way that afternoon and they were realy tired. but when they got on stage they saw all of us were eating dinner outside and he said, "hey whats that your eatin there? oh chiken? that looks good." and imediatly about 5 people ran up to the stage and gave john their chicken and he's like "woah, raly? nice thanks! you guys rock." and then we gave them all fudge rounds (jumbo ones) and, i think they had there afect cause they ROCKED that night, they played us about 4 of the songs from colide, so, if you ever want a great concert, bring fudge to bribe them w/.

"If any of you ask to hold muy daughter I will personally have secuirt escort you out of the building, can you do that?"

Yeah, that's one of the reasons we left our old church and I like our new one better. Better worship service, and people feel free about holding up their hands.

John's a pretty funny guy, I must admit.
His "country music" qoute made me laugh pretty hard.

11-17-2003, 05:24 PM
Ah, where to start...?

"There was this guy in high school who was like all into evangelizing & stuff, & he'd come up to me at school & be like, 'Brother John, God is MOVING! You need to LISTEN to his WILL!!' And he freaked me out! So one time I said, 'I think God is telling me that you should leave me alone now, cause you're scary.' He just laughed, I don't think he got it."

"So, when I was like 5, I found out that my best friend across the street didn't go to church. I was so shocked, I said, 'Well then...you're going to hell!' His mom got mad at me, she was all, 'We don't say that word Johnny...' "

JOHN: "Yeah, so you know those bench things you're sitting in? Those, um...uh..."
KOREY: "Pews, John?"
JOHN: *laughs* "Oh yeah! Pews!" (he sniffs under his arm, & then smiles) "Heh...pew!"

;D There's SO much more I could add, but I'll let other people post, lol.

OOH! Now I remember. It went something like:

'I would always hang around my christian guy friends and they'd cuss. So I'd say 'HEY DON"T YOU CUSS AROUND ME! YOU IDIOT! THERE'S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM!!!!'

*on passionate worship* We should be passionate and dance and clap! Once I went to this church...really quiet...I started clapping SLOWLY on the beat and people were turning around and looking at what the commotion was. We should be passionate or else we'd be saying 'shake a friends hand shake a friends hand' and shaking hands instead of worshipping.'

What's with John's "accent"? He's from Memphis, not Scotland! (well it sounds like a cross between a scottish accent and an english accent). Does he have a severe southern accent or something that he is trying to cover up?

I don't know, but I thought the same thing when I first heard 'em. Especially in some of their songs, he sounds like he has an English or Australlian accent. He said in the RadioU interview that people ask him all the time if he's from England or Australia. But when you hear him talk for a long time, you can catch a hint of the southern-ness in his voice (at least to me you can). And you realize he doesn't really have an accent (British or Australlian).

I was around for Skillet's first protest. It was in Gillette, Wyoming and we were all sitting inside the building when someone came in and said there was a guy outside protesting the concert. So naturally, we all ran out to look. Here was this funny little guy, wearing these two coloured posterboards on each side with stuff and protesting rock music. We were all like "uhh".

Durring the show, John was like "I've heard about bands like POD and Project86 geting having people protest at their shows, but I never actually thought it would happen to us. I'm actually kind of honored that someone would take the time out of their schedule to come do what they think is God's work. But it's also people like him who are so screwed up in their beliefs..."

"...on the Alien Youth tour, while the rest of the band was backstage taking a break in the middle of the concert, John was talking about sex... it's worth the wait, and all that. What was funny was when he said something like, "and it's fun!.... Korey would kill me if she heard that."

*Chris posted that, i'm just not sure how the quote thingy works*

i thought this was sooo funny! and i could see John saying soemthing like that, he's so crazy. ya just gotta love him. heehee. i used to have the biggest crush on him a few years back. then i got to meet him one year when they came to North Carolina. Korey wasn't there b/c she was really pregnant with Alex so that made me sad, but when i acyually talked to John i was so excited! i cried all the way home to VA b/c i was soo happy that i got to meet him. *blushes* i dreew a pic for him....i wonder if he still has that picture? that would be so cool!

Well first of all I am from Memphis and I think John does have somewhat of a southern accent, not overwhelmingly southern, but you can hear it. Then about the quotes...when I met him at the Alien Youth CD release party I had my hair in to balls on the top of my head and he said
"I like your hair, cool pigtails! Wait...those really are pigTails...more like Pig Balls!..Oh that sounds bad! (he got super red and all the band members burst out laughing) I didnt mean to be gross! I really think your hair is cool!"
It was soo funny to see him get so embarrased! and at the show last night he said his baby was cuter and he loooves to "rock your faces off" quote. Someone yelled it at him and he got all excited.
here is a pic from the show last night

This isn't all that funny.. but at Cornerstone NC this year, I saw Skillet for my first time, and i was in a crazy mood so I spiked my lengthy hair straight up with red hair gel and it looked pretty stupid... anys after the AWEsome concert I was hangin around to get Korey's guitar pick autographed and John says "Hey man, I like your hair!" and I'm not sure if he was kidding or just has really weird taste lol :P

thats funny, I don't know why

actually I think some of johns best quotes are when he brings Korey into it. At every concert I went to he talks about his wife, you know what I mean. Its usaully really funny, and then korey looks all embaressed..

"For those of you thinking your getting a word from God that she's the one,(points to Korey) she's not."-John

(at festival con dios before alien youth came out) "Our new album is coming out..and another thing, its gonna rawk your face off!!"
(to me and my sister after the concert) *wierd stare/glare..* "Its..the..freaks...."
(at Godstock 2001) "The GORGEOUS keyboard player(korey rolls eyes) is my wife...oh and another thing, if anyone says she's hot, i'm gonna take you out to the parking lot and i'm gonna beat you up!!!"
(agape 2003) "My daughter is cuter than any of you all were at that age!!"
*to me and my sister who were yelling in the front row* "I know you two!! You've been to like 15 of our concerts!!!!" "sadly, we've only been to 3." "well what about the other 12 then?!?!?!"
Godstock 2003 *to my sister when she displayed her flame shirt from hot topic* "Did you gut the store??"

When we had our panhead party last november, we were hardly able to eat any of the tremendous amount of "stuff" we bought.

So we had this really cool 3 Musketeers ice cream topping that we never used (never even broke the seal!)...
http://www.smucker.com/images/products/5150004478.gif

Well, we decided that we should give it to skillet because they might enjoy it.

So, when I gave it to John....he got all excited and said...

"That's so cool...I wanna smell it..."

So he proceeded to open the flip top and get the little tube-like opening so close to his nose that it didn't even look right...(you know what I'm saying?)

Finally, I could stand it no longer and inbetween barely concealed laughs I told John I was pretty sure that there was a freashness seal. His response?

"Oh....well....I guess I'll just have to smell it later."

I about burst I was trying so hard not to laugh... ;)

We all know John is a very funny guy, he is very witty.......but I would like to share with you guys a not so funny or wacky little story that I admire him for. I went to see Skillet for the first time about 2 years ago now, (Will, the creator of this site, was also there and it was his first Skillet concert aswell.) He may remember this, John was like showing off his classic purple and green guitar and was holding it up for everyone to see. John was like "you gotta love this guitar!" Some people out in the crowd started moving their arms up and down like they were worshipping the guitar, then John was like "Stop it guys, thats not funny." I really admire him for that, he knows when to draw the line and thats a awesome testimony for a christian. :)

I think you're right. John always has something goofy to say or a joke that no one laughs at!! :P

I don't have the best quotes, but...
My best friend, and her dad and her sister and I got to the concert hours and hours early, and ran around in the parking lot, and stalked John and Ben and stuff. They were setting up their merchandisde table, and a guy from one of the other bands walking by, with his pants sagging really far. I can't remember who said what, but they were picking at him.
"Hey, dude, I hate to break it to you, but your pants are falling down."
"This is a family place." Then they handed him a bunjee chord.
Then my best friend was looking at the Skillet mirror, and said, "You can't see yourself in this."
Then John was all distraught. "Yes you can!" He looked horrified and indignant and stuff, and looked in the mirror to make sure.

All I need to do is remember to come back to this thread when I feel down, 'cause it makes me laugh sooo hard. ;D

John's a funny one, he is. ::]

Here's a good one...

Carrie was talking to John about his quote on Skillet.org and how awesome it was....the quote that says "Don't just be another person with the answer of what life is about. Actually believe it and let the passion of living it drip off your tongue." Well, he couldn't remember what he'd said there....so Carrie and I quoted it for him.

After we'd finished, John said something to the effect of, "I said that? That's awesome! I'm so smart."

:D
Yep, that's a "me" thing as well, just ask Jon. ::]

when i went to my first skillet concert, it was a worship concert and John had a wild hair cut it looked like the pic from alien youth, and he fliped his hair out of his face someone yell out nice hair why dont you get a hair cut, and John said well you may think that my hair is stupid, but your hair is boring so there and then he started lauging at his own joke it was great

This isn't exactly funny or anything...or maybe it is.

So I saw Skillet at Kingdom Bound in '04. Awesome show and whatnot. Next time I see them, like in April, John was talking about during the show...like, he had to take a dump and stuff. That and he ended up sayin that after the show and between when he went to go do signings and stuff...massive diahhrea.

It was funny at the time anyways...

I'm resurrecting this thread :) because I have a bunch!!

(Lori is talking to my best friend on the phone when John grabs the phone from her mid-sentence):
"What's up, this is John! You know what, I like totally just grabbed the phone & interrupted your sentence, isn't that rude? Well guess what, I'm the lead singer, which means I'm the boss, which means I can do whatever I want to! Isn't that great?"

"Yeah, remember that show, in 1998 when it rained? Yeah, it messed up my hair, so I remember that...oh you think that's funny? Ha! Ha! Haha!! Grrrr..."

"I hope some of you little kids can stay out late, cuz we're gunna rock your faces off ALL NIGHT LONG!!! That was corny huh? It's true."

(My personal favorite):
"Did you guys ever get in fights on the school bus? No? Come on, yes you did. Was I really the only one? Anyway, everyone used to make fun of me in school cuz I was in marching band. Yeah yeah...laugh if you want. They'd say stupid stuff like, 'Look at John, he's gay,' or something. And to make it worse, I played the trombone, which is like, the hugest instrument besides the tuba. One day this kid made me so mad that I just SMACKED him in the face with my trombone! I don't know why I told that story...that's really mean...but it's okay because I preached to him right after. Haha, no I didn't, I'm lying. Stupid Preston & his stupid friends..."

(After Ben broke a string right in the middle of 'Savior'...):
"Okay hold it, wait a second hold on...WHAT is the problem here?!" (Ben says he broke a string.) "Oh, okay...well fix it! Gosh! I think this is the most embaressing moment in all of Skillet history...maybe even my whole life...are we ready again? Wait, where are we starting from? What's going on?"

"I hate playing this bass. The strap is too long & I can't reach all the strings. I feel like I'm in a punk band, cuz they don't use the top 2. Hahahaha! Get it? Come on, that was funny! Why aren't you laughing?"

"I think Edgefest was the most intimidating, heaviest day in the history of my whole career with Skillet. I felt like I was up there going, 'ooo ooo ooo!' & dancing around while all these other guys were like seriously rockin out. Oh you guys liked that dance? Yeah, I'm taking that to American Idol."

"So how did you guys like Old Man Shattered? I thought they were way cool. Interesting name though...oh well. Anything is better than SKILLET. Der-herr!"

BarlowgIRL

At Bakersfield he was trying to fix his bass cause he was having problems with it. Anyway he was talking about how it's held together with duct tape and even showed us the back where there was tons of duct tape and said "Isn't this the most beautiful bass you have ever seen?" *crowd screams their approval* "Yeah, it's MINE

I only met John once and I don't recall saying anything. I'd been thinking of what to say to him for two months too, and never came up with a thing. I recall being completely stunned that he was really in front of me and staring at him. But John was really nice and was all, "Hi" and he shook my hand which was the coolest thing ever to me then. I felt a lot like those silly, sentimentally hyped-up teenybopper girls. I'm really a dork.

During Better Than Drugs Ben's guitar crapped out and he got it fixed a few seconds before the solo. After the song John said "We're going to rock this place with or without these stupid instruments!"

On an unrelated note, Korey has totally stepped up her live show. She was the craziest person on stage and had a ton of energy. By the end of the show her knee was bleeding, I didn't see what she hit it on, but it was totally cool looking. :P
