This prolly shud be in the photos thing. But its a dif topic so I just made a new thread for it

This is for any graphics, drawings u've done.
Made an avatar, drew some manga, PC graphics whatever

I'll start off

This is Megaman. I drew the outline in Shockwave Flash using the line tool and bending it to the shapes I needed. Then I took ths outline and transferred it to Paint Shop Pro where I masked it stuck it in layers then coloured it layer by layer.

some of the layers were

Background
Outline
Main Colour
Dark shade
Light Shade
Highlight
Flashy bit

then I merged the layers and saved it as a jpeg.
Wot u think?

Yip I drew that.

Unshakeable ur prolly thinking of Rockman from the Original Megaman games. That guys Megaman X, they are different robots. Anyway he can turn his cannon into an arm and vice versa, that why in some games he can fire a double shot.

Here's another drawing. Laura (Weebird) did the outline and I coloured him.

Hold on TreeHill, you can't just start drawing and expect to be the greatest. I think that each artist can honestly say that when they started, they sucked. Speaking for myself (and I don't consider myself and artist), I started out so horrible my stick figures look deformed. But through a lot of practice, effort, and study of other people's drawings, I've become moderate at drawing.

skynes
11-26-2003, 03:04 AM
I still suck at drawing. I cannot do proportions period. Only reason my Megaman looks good is cause I've been drawing him for as long as I've been drawing! HAha

pidget
11-26-2003, 10:43 AM
Yeah, proportions are a pain in the booty. I hate them too, that's why I usually only draw heads... Lol

skynes
11-26-2003, 12:51 PM
And why I usually draw monsters, robots, spaceships etc. Proportions aren't a problem. Prolly why I like Manga as well... FF7 Clouds sword is humongous! In Manga out of proportion can be a gud thing

thalia
11-26-2003, 03:18 PM
I hate trying to draw famous people, cuz I end up with this drawing that looks perfectly fine, but it doesn't even closely resemble the person I was trying to draw (or paint)!!!! I usually stick to watercolor, it's my favorite medium!!!! I like painting people, mainly their faces. I just scan magazines for pics of people's heads, and paint that. I haven't tried landscapes yet, but I do like to sketch nature scenes.

i guess great minds think alike. :) blue just goes so great with that picture.

TreeHill, i used to completely hate drawing faces 'cause i couldn't do noses or mouths or ears. now, i love 'em (except i'm still not that great at mouths), but it's taken a lot of practice to get things looking good.

unshakeable15
03-12-2004, 10:33 AM
there are a couple reasons why i might not be loading for you.

the most obvious would probably be the file name. you have to have these file extensions: bmp doc gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png psd txt zip

try those & if it still doesn't work, then (at the rist of sounding obvious) it must be something else. :-\

This is a test. The image is not very good but it is the only thing I had that was small to post for a test. Most of my stuff is 400 kb and up. This is some dancers, originally painted in monochrome green, here it has been lightened and gray-scaled.

yeah, i'd suggest shrinking down the file-size. if you shrink the photo-size in a program made for that sort of thing, it'll also shrink the file-size. you could try that. :)

I would get an error message and no indications of why there was an error. Then I discovered black writing writen on a black background that was only visible when selected...

Most of my files are over 220 kb. I will post first what I have that isn't too big, but it isn't my best art either. When I stop being lazy maybe I'll post something better.

Well this is a painting exercise, a painting of an IKEA kitchen.

la-garconne

because the catalogue is not too bulky and the furniture is modern so there is less wood and more clean lines, and interesting colours. You see I am very bad at painting wood.

zilchr0

Hmmm, a lot of textures, though I would have thought that watercolour would have done some of that naturally. (I haven't painted in a LONG time)

skynes
03-16-2004, 03:18 AM
What's left to do is:

Smudge the shading, I'm working from a more realistic drawing NOT Manga so my shading as to be more blended

Highlights: A couple of layers for this. One for the COLOUR highlights and another for LIGHT reflections.

Can't think what else yet. Optional addition is a background.

Textures are really good to do in watercolor if you can master the technique... and I can't yet. I use blotching sometimes to make textures, but that only works if you have mastered the technique of washes ... which I haven't.

zilchr0
03-16-2004, 12:34 PM
Well, do keep trying! You'll get it eventually.

Skynes, fun thoughts for backgrounds make different versions inserting samus into various pictures. Samus on the beach.... playing with penguins... etc....

I was thinking more of a scene from Metroid Prime... Maybe Chozo Ruins or Magmoor Caverns or something. I'd have to make it as detailed as the pic which is where my problems come in.

weebird20

Hey LG i used to do some watercolour painting, wasn't all that good, did mostly landscape stuff (yeah i kno kina boring), i was more into drawing with pencil,
I have tried, and have been lomging to do landscapes but I can't master it either. All the lanscape painting I did were bad too. I's the textures and colours of nature that make it difficult for me. That's why I practice mostly on furniture magazines and dancers.
So how long have you been painting for? cud you post some more of ur stuff i wud love to see it :) I have been painting since my first watercolour set was bought for me at age 4. Seriously, I became extremely interested in it in 8th grade, and began to paint regularly since 10th grade when I bought myself a new set of watercolours. Last summer I started getting into pencil drazings too, and colour pencil drawings. It's a useful technique to learn because you can pull out 4 basic colours anywhere and take down sketches or ideas. So I encourage you to continue the pencil drawings.

weebird20
03-18-2004, 04:10 AM
Awesome pic LG :) really it is very good.....i don't normally use coloured pencils, i prefer just a drawing pencil and do the shading and shadows with it...when i get some of my work scanned in i'll post some for u to see.....my art teacher always told me i used a strange technique when i did drawings with pencil, she said she never saw anyone draw in the same way i did.....not sure if it was a compliment or not tho :-\

Hey do u ever use watercolour pencils? i've tried them and found them much easier to use cus i can really get the tones just right, then i use a wet brush over the top to blend them.

skynes
03-18-2004, 07:00 AM
It was probably a compliment. Everyone has their own way of doing art, some stranger than others.

la-garconne
03-18-2004, 12:53 PM
I like the eye. weebird, I vote for complements. We need more creative people in the world who can comeup with something new.
I use mostly watercolour pencils because I like the way they get applied to paper. I put water on only when I want to give a smooth finish while leaving other parts still textured. Here is an example, (also IKEA). Here I also set out to prove a book I read on the subject wrong: It said that once you lay a layer of colour and put water on it, you can't put another layer and re-do the process to make it darker. Well I went right ahead and made the colour darker. Notice in the corner, I left the texture.
The problem is that this image doesn't seem to be very much in focus...

weebird20
03-19-2004, 12:54 AM
Supernova ur work is amazing.....that robot is cool :) i like the eye too. Wot software do you use?

Thanks LG, i really like that pic, i like how you use mainly the light and shadows to pick out the objects instead of putting in a lot of detail. How big are the pieces you do....i normally work on A2 or A3 paper tho i have done some bigger. I prefer to use thick watercolour paper too cus it doesn't curl up when i add water to it.

skynes
03-19-2004, 01:22 AM
LG - Alot of books talk some garbage... I use Watercolour pencils sometimes and I ALWAYS use multiple layers!

SuperNova - GAWK... Robot.... Coool..... *collapses*

la-garconne
03-19-2004, 01:28 AM
I use, generally, either A4, or a square made from an A4. The reason I don't put too much detail is because detail always looks messy when I do it with water color pencils. supernova, what is the origin of that eye? I really like it.

weebird20
03-19-2004, 01:43 AM
Have you ever tried acrylics? they're really good for giving flat blocks of colour, but if you add a little water they can be used just like watercolours...i've started using them a lot in some of the pieces i've been doing lately.

Hey Skynes you got any new pics of Metroid to show us? :)

Nope, sorry. Haven't done ANY more than what I've already shown you ;)

la-garconne
03-19-2004, 06:18 AM
I once did try using acrylic. I did a picasso-style painting. I also used it to paint a model of a windmill that I made. I did mix water to dilute them, but I got very fustrated with them. I could never mix the right amount of paint, nor get the right tones quickly, nor build layers... I guess they are good for giving blocks of colour. I think I just don't have the technique. And I don't have anybody to help me. Another thing - I always feel like I'm waisting the paint... which Is never the case with watercolors... I have a problem with spending money. That's all. Even on acrylics that are really cheap in comparison with oil paints. When will you get you get your pics scanned, weebird?

lol hmmm lets see if it will even come out

mmmmmmmmmmk well i scanned it and i only could get one of the baseballs on, this is about accual size maybe a tad smaller, but i have five baseballs on 18 by 24 drawing pad, i got covered in charcoal puting it in there too.... all the base balls are different... that one is not my favorant lol, oh by the way this is a still life drawing, where u put a lamp up over the object and u turn out the lights so u can study the shadows took me like 2 hours to draw the five baseballs

weebird20
03-19-2004, 11:29 AM

thanky, charcoal is fun! cuz like u can make things really really dark then u can use ur fingers to make shawdows... but i didnt do that with this one lol, yeah it may have been a little over two hours.... i wasent really watching the time, i have this other picture thats really cool i did with charcoal, i used vine charcoal and made the whole page black and then took a compressed charcoal and went over it with that, and then i used an eraser to make the shawdows and draw the picture, once again it was under a lamp with the lights off, but i worked 3 hours and didnt even finish it, but it looks pretty cool unfinished

I did this pic and used cloud on it for a foggy effect.
Yeah I know this pic isn't anything like Samus but I did this one with no reference or anything. All my own work.

It's Numach from my story if you're wondering. I'm using this pic as my RPG avatar at the Guild of Redeemed Gamers (http://www.3xronline.net/gfc/)

I use Colour Replacer quite a bit too. I tried to use it on Samus to make Weebird a pink one but it looked horrible! I used smudge so much that changing one colour just won't work! I'd need to change HUNDREDS to get it to look right!

O.K. here is some of my stuff that I did while on vacation. It's is not anything great, I was doing things I'm not good at.
The first is a water color of the landskape seen from my aunt's house in the south of France. (I am not good at all in landskapes)
The second is a sketch/painting with colored pencils. Not very good either.

And then here is the only sketch that was satisfactory enough to make me keep going...
And a lot can be improved (giving a feeling of distance with the colors I use, improving the reflections in the water.)
I used water soluble pastels or whatever they are.

Thanks! I drew it in pencil (during youth group one night. the youth pastor was talking about abstinence and I've heard that talk like 100000000 times before so I was bored), then scanned it on the comp and reversed the colors and played with brightness/contrast.

Attached here is 2 drawings of mine.

One is a Megaman Paladin, the other is what I based the main body on.

Had to rip it apart to make it like the Paladin. I drew it for Laura as part of a desktop background I made. I couldn't attach the background cus its over 1MB big! :P

^Awesome pics!!

There's this T-shirt design contest at my school, it's for our festival week, and the theme is "Freaks and Geeks," and it's a $50 prize for the winner, but I have no clue what to draw! Plus, it's due by 6 pm this afternoon! Oh, well...

I can technically call this art... I know it's not much, and I didn't apply as much effort as all of you did, and I definitely didn't hand-draw this, but...

This picture is one I just made. I used my webcam to take a picture of something, then I used Photo Editing software to toy with the image, then I went to Paint and cropped the image and toy with it, and I also hand-did each pixel in certain areas.

Then I went back to the PE software and toyed with it a bit, used a couple of filters, and viola. Here it is. It's not much, but I thought that this one was unique enough to post here. Also, my avatar as of today is another piece of "art" I made called "Cacophony." It's obviously supremely simplistic, but...

If anyone wants this in a larger form... well, it doesn't look as good larger (low quality). I will make larger art photos soon, as well as avatar-sized ones. This one will be my avatar sometime... maybe in December.

I have more "art" also. This one is called "Symbiosis."

I can technically call this art... It is art. In one of my classes I am learning all about the video artists, and often times they would do the same thing ... filming reality and doing whatever filtering/tweeking they want, with results far inferior to what you do. I like your results.

Thanks, you two. :)

I feel my specialty is light. I play with the effects light has on certain objects. Since I have limited means, it's not easy to get much difference in some work, but I have a few more than I have put up on here.

I feel I should explain that picture a bit further than its name. If you know what Symbiosis means, you're quite already there. But basically the picture is supposed to show the harmony between two things (two souls, for an example) that goes beyond what the eye can see. This harmony is there for those two 'souls' and one complements the other with their true beauty.

The pink you see is their 'sparks' of happiness. ;D

So really, I put most of my effort in that one "piece," but I will post another one. It's much larger. Why? Because, as the name might suggest, it takes a much closer look to see the details in this "piece." It's called "Dark Perception."

P.S., thanks again for the compliments. :)

All right. I spent two or three hours making the original structure for these pieces - on Paint. I made the original structure pixel by pixel on Paint. Well, not to mention it wasn't too good. I, as the artist, saw several flaws. But I digress.

I have made many variations of this piece. I won't post 'em all. They all aren't too good. I hope I can fit all these in this one post. Doesn't matter. I'll show the names below, hoping that they'll be displayed in corresponding order:

1) A Different Beauty

2) Unknown World

3) Fountain of Blood

4) Levels of Exposure

[Edit: They are displayed correctly. I hope all of you who see these will enjoy them individually and not as a whole, as I enjoy them.]

...not that I entirely enjoy double posting, but there were a couple pieces I made late last night that I was so thrilled about I wanted to share them on here.

Feel free to ask what they mean to me. But feel more free to express how they feel to you.

1) Shattered Spirit

2) Ameliorator

3) Fountain of Blood (Scars)

4) Blind
