...does it talk about being careful about who you let come into the church and speak? I'm wanting to say it is Timothy, but not really sure.
[so this isn't exactly a topic for the Hill, but I didn't want it disappearing in the confusion of the general board... perhaps we should open a "bible study" board back up like we used to have? that or just expand the Hill to include this as well as the "tough questions"?... just a thought]

Paul's writings deal with that a lot....and one text is found in First Timothy 1:1-10. Second Thessalonians 2: 3-4 and 3: 4-5 also come to mind.
In Titus 1:5-9 Paul gives some qualifications for speakers and pastors and in verses 10-16 he gives some disqualifications for them.
This is a issue that Paul took very seriously.I am on the board of trustees at our church and from experience I can tell you that you do have to be careful as to who you allow to speak from behind the pulpit.

I think it's a serious responsibility of the church leadership to know who the speakers is and what they believe in before letting them address the congregation. Thanks J3 for the verses. Your quick.
A cousin of ours had a speaker at thier church that the leadership only "heard he was a good speaker" about the speakers reputation. Well the pastor ended up apologizing to the congregation afterwards.

It's important that you know wot a preacher is like, wot he believes etc before you let him preach. I personally wouldn't want some1 that compromises preaching. All it takes is one seed of lies or doubt to cause trouble in a church. It's not worth the toruble of having to fix it later when it could have been prevented.
