it is sad how we tend to judge people right off the bat simply by how they look. or act. that is something that i am working on to improve. who am i to judge? only God knows the real us. only Jesus lived the perfect life.

people shouldn't be judged based on looks, but...on the opposite end, why do people need to dress like that? are you not trying to make a statement? if so, what statement is that? don't you know that by dressing up like that, you're gonna get that attention? it's just kind of the way it works. i think that people who choose to dress extreme should understand that there is a lot of attention, negative and otherwise, that goes along with it, as well.

If a person is so shallow as to judge by looks, then you're better off NOT working for them.

Well, I used to wear all black. All black. And I used to not smile before I met Jesus. So I lost a few babysitting offers.

But the thing about people is that even though you may have changed, people don't expect that. And they still expect you (unless they know you very well) to be the same.
That's the sad thing about it.

1 Samuel 16:7 it says "Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart."

That verse it so awesome. I wear black pants and black band shirts all the time and I smile and joke around all the time. I'm not afraid to show i'm a christian, and yes I am told by my dad that I look like a faggot for wanting long hair (which I still have yet to get) but really, it's your attitude is where it should lie. No, i'm not trying to imply that you have a bad attitude, I was just throwing in my $.02. I just don't like wearing stupid $40 Abercrombie & Fitch clothes, does that make me uncool? If so, i'm glad. Go Wal-Mart clothes! :lick:

RIGHT ON BOB! Wally World rocks! hmmmm....anyways, that is incredibly stupid. i happen to love black clothes, not because im "goth" or whatever, its because i just like it. yes i wear colors and other stuff, but, whats the appearance... a mere scientific outside God gave us to set us apart from the world. i get judged not by wearing black, but for wearing skirts. i believe in wearing skirts, and people dont understand that. they overlook me and yes i admit it, im basically and outcast at school. but you know what? i dont care, friends arent my top priority for school, i mean theyre nice, but school is education. once they get to know me, they respect me as a person, but before then, im just a face in the crowd. clothes and outward appearance is nothing special, it is, as you've heard before, the inside that counts. i try my hardest not to judge people, but im human, and so is everyone else...end.

personally, I don't care anymore. sure, I get crap from my parents, and I get funny looks, and little kids are scared of me sometimes, but you've gotta get past it if that's how you want to dress. You can't change other people's thinking- the best (and usually easiest) thing to do is to change your own thinking. and people can learn to get past your appearance too. My friends make fun of me for the way I dress, but they're never serious when they do.

Thanks. Like I said, I'm awesome. *tss* Gosh, I seriously need a life.
But, to keep this post actually having to do with the thread...
People shouldn't judge other people by how they look... but they do. And that's just sort of the way it is. It's this natural human nature thing. Like, if you walk around dressed all in black with spikes and chains and stuff... you're probably not going to get many babysitting jobs.
Okay, I have no idea what I'm saying now.

it doesn't matter the way you dress, either way your going to be judged by someone. if you dress like a prep, somepeople will think your gay, i f you dress like a punk, some people are going to think that your lazy, and irrisponsible, and if you dress goth, some people are going to think your a freak... just the way it is

People that don't act socially appropriate are either highly developed socially, or deficient socially. I'd say 90+% of those are the latter.

This lady at my church that I get my drum lessons from doesn' like Skillet because of Korey. She went to a concert with our youth group (when did we go see skillet?!) and Korey was wearing all black and black nail polish. So she immediatly thought, let me use the transitive property, that she was a satanist. Because goths wear all black and are satanists and Korey was wearing all black she must be a satanist and therefore how can she preach God's word? True my teacher was a "worldly" person so now she is completly against anything that can be even slightly non christian but that's a little harsh. And everytime I go to her house I am wearing all black and black nail polish. I know she doesn't think that of me(but then again that may be why she always preaches at me)but it makes me wonder, if she didn't know me would she think that of me?

When I would wear all black and what not, Ladies at my church would ask my mom "What's wrong with Katelyn? She looks like a rebel." Even though NONE of these ladies to the time to find out that even though I had changed my style, I was still the same person. I got really upset about that...I don't like to dress for people-pleasing reasons. If I like it, and it's modest, I'll wear what I like.

So go up to these people and loudly inform them that it's not nice to talk about you behind your back, and tell them that your the same.

Greg... you sound most sensible to me right now.

Judging on outward appearances: nah, I don't think one should judge the content of one's character by the color of their clothes, BUT when people are looking to hire, they're looking for somebody who acts and LOOKS professional. If you want a higher chance at getting and keeping a job, dress professionally, not like a punk, goth, whatever. Also, take out your piercings, other than earrings, and you can put them back in after work or the interview.

and maybe you'll luck out and get a totally cool boss who doesn't care what you wear or which portions of your body are pierced as long as you do the job well. That happened to me. I dressed nice the first day of work, and that was the last time I had to wear slacks that summer.

um not really. its saying....well its a pun, like you give a person your heart after youre dead when youre an organ donor. but this time its giving your heart to God instead of someone who doesnt know you...?...the organ donor part? oh well, in that case, im not an organ donor, and its not saying you should literally be an organ donor, its just a phrase.... :)

I don't waste my time with people who say stuff like "black nail varnish = goth = satanist"

They are shallow and pathetic and there are many other people I could spend quality time talking to than them.

If God tells me to spend time with one of them, fair enough. But it's not something I choose to do on my own. I've had enough of that attitude being directed at me thanks very much.

Everybody judges me by the way I look, most of the people that live here in my neighborhood are rich and they buy clothes that are too expensive to me. I don't dress trashy, and I don't wear anything that isn't appropriate or revealling and I'm not gonna spend hundreds of dollars on clothes just to make anyone else happy. I think people shouldn't judge just by what someone wears or looks.
