That must mean they're not Christian. If they don't talk about Jesus at all, they certainly can't be Christians even outside of the band.

Hey has anyone heard the new album from "Becoming the archtype". It's called terminate damnation and through listening to it the guitar work is very awesome. The sound of the band sounds like 18th century death metal. It's like Bach himself was ressurected and started a christian death metal band. The songs themselves aren't that great but as I said the guitars are awesome! There are also some unexpected instruments like pipe organs, pianos and a harpsichord. Also their Album cover is pretty imagianative. It features some sort of war between good and evil and is amazing to look at. you should check it out.

I actually have a relativly large head, since I'm 6'4. And that's where you're wrong. Old metal is actually music. It had a point, it had killer guitar work, and was loud, and offensive, which is the point of metal.
Today's stuff is junk, especially Christian metal. If you took all the Christian Metal, and metal released in the past 5 years, barring Maiden's releases, and compared it to Iron Maiden's "Rock in Rio", the Maiden would blow it away. You could also substitude "Master of Puppets" by Metallica, "Back in Black" by AC/DC, or "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath and you'd get the same results.

What the 'eff man?! You're just blatantly telling someone they're wrong/dumb for not liking the same things you do. I think you're forgetting taste is entirely subjective. It's not like he was bashing old metal or anything - your word isn't Gospel (and how would you like it if I went through all your posts and started pointing out English errors and mistakes - I'm sure I could find some if not a bunch). There's a difference between trying to type correctly, and writing "u", and not even capitalizing. Most every kid in this country acts like they never passed the 4th grade. "Wrote or Write" come on, you're not even trying. If you're so incompitent that you make that big of an error when you are trying, how did you access the internet in the first place? Wouldn't that be beyond your thought process?
There you go. Show me where I said she was stupid in my post before you say that I said that k? Also, pay some attention to her post before you go off on a diatribe about mine. kthxbye

And then you pretty much blast their taste as junk. I'm not defending anyone's opinion because they're...well...opinions! But even after the fact you're still going on about how horrible they're typing is! Saying, "hey, just fyi 'insert error' is incorrect and is kind of annoying - just keep that in mind por favor," in your post is a far cry from just saying your english sucks, you shouldn't be writing any songs or using the internet. You may not be meaning to translate hostile messages, but you are. I know I do it myself all the time when I don't mean to as well, I'm just saying cut it.
Edit: And, yes, I did see what the original poster said, but certain things just have to be taken in stride with a grain of salt when someone is just stating what they think (not directing towards anybody as far as I can TELL). There's a life lesson for ya on everything - I have difficulty with it myself (it's called college proffessors, for one), but that's just life.

Just to add my opinion. Yes, I love metal and false metal (like FIF or Roper).
And just to add this, which will probably take it to a Mars Hill topic, I disagree with those of you who say if you are a christian you don't have to say anything about it in your music. I do agree that christians do that but in doing that they make their band not a christian band. Am I saying that you have to have the words Jesus or God in your song? No. But even if you don't the christianity should ooze from your lyrics, like Skillet on their new album. In my opinion and given this is just my opinion, if you are in what you think is a christian band and you are not glorifying God either through direct mention of him or his son or the promotion of his ideals through your lyrics, you need to re-evaluate what you are doing. This is the case even with bands like Relient K (not Switchfoot cause you can easily pick out the christian message in their songs). Relient K has gone from one of the most overtly christian bands with songs like "Never Underestimate my Jesus" to a band that claims to be christian but has many songs and videos, which basically promote lusting after girls. I don't know about you but I don't remember the commandment "thou shalt lust after girls." In fact I remember something against that like something about coveting or adultery something like that. Also if you are a christian and you are in a band that doesn't glorify God through your music at all, I think you need to re-evaluate what you are doing. What on earth are you doing for heaven's sake? Is this band helping anyone come to christ, and don't give me the well they will meet me and see that I'm a christian through the way I act and that will win people to christ, cause you know how many people actually take the time out of their life to meet every member of their favorite band. The answer is not many. In fact I would imagine a great deal of the panheads havn't met all of Skillet, I havn't met John. So really look and see what your band is doing for the kingdom of heaven. If the answer is nothing in my opinion you should leave and use your talents to do that. Anyway, I've said my piece and am well aware that I will get jumped on for this but I will try and avoid responding to the jumping to try and avoid having this topic go to Mars Hill.
Finally I just want to say to Isildur that I have noticed that you do this thing a great deal. You take things just a little too far and it ends up making things go south. I don't know if you mean to do it or not, but I have called you on it before and apparently that didn't help at all. So, I agree with the others, try and at least keep it civil. And just on a side note, attacking someone's grammar is low. It is a tactic usually used by people who really have no basis for their argument and so try to compensate for that by discrediting their opponent by attacking their writing skills. I'm not saying that is what you are doing, but that is the usual trend. The person you just lambasted could be ten years old and doesn't know any better. Also we are on the internet so the use of internet language like u for you is understandable, while not always appreciated it is understandable. So just try and keep that in mind.

I don't want this to degenerate into a he-said, she-said, however it looks to be that way. At least from what I'm gathering out of this, you're going out of your way to flame me, when both myself, and deadb4dawn are guilty of it somewhat. I'll agree that I was a bit more 'intense' in my post, but she still slammed on older metal, saying it wasn't even metal. But wait, that doesn't matter, only what I say right?

I do keep it civil. I don't go out of my way to start blatantly insulting people.
And just on a side note, attacking someone's grammar is low.
It's also "low" to throw out that great education you recieve for free.
It is a tactic usually used by people who really have no basis for their argument and so try to compensate for that by discrediting their opponent by attacking their writing skills.
Too bad I had a basis for my argument. Maybe that would have applied if I didn't. If you really want proof, you can look at record sales from the 4 bands I listed.
I'm not saying that is what you are doing, but that is the usual trend.
Sometimes my emotions get the best of me. Sorry. Most of the time I don't, and I do back up my arguments.
The person you just lambasted could be ten years old and doesn't know any better.
Someone has to look out for the common good.
Also we are on the internet so the use of internet language like u for you is understandable, while not always appreciated it is understandable. So just try and keep that in mind.

Isildur are you serious?
I didn't go out of my way to insult you.
I said that it is usually the trend that they have no basis for their argument, not that you didn't. And even if you do we are still only talking about matters of opinion so record sales have nothing to do with it. If that were the case I wouldn't like any christian bands cause secular bands have much greater record sales.
I am not willing to let the internet degrade to a cesspool, but I don't think using the letter u rather than the word you is going to be the downfall of human society. Seriously man pick your battles.
Finally this is your whole problem bud. This is why this continues to happen with you and why everyone's attempts to correct it are in vain. You take every attempt to try and help you as an attack or insult. I in no way was insulting you in my last post. I was trying to help you. If you can't see that or even acknowledge that then I give up. Now I do appreciate your apology for letting your emotions get the best of you, I do the same thing, but to have that be one line in a post where you fail to not let your emotions get the best of you again is not good. I hope you take this to heart it isn't me being mean to you, I'm simply trying to help you.

I used to love metal but then I realized the vocals suck 80% of the time, it's either whiney 80's metal type vocals or crappy growling. The guitars can be fun to listen to, but then the drumming also gets repetitive. I don't know what happened, but apparently I turned into a full-blown cynic.

Metal... *starts drooling* Sorry. :P I practically live for Metal.
For starters I love: Metallica, Zao, Living Sacrifice, The Agony Scene, American Head Charge, Static-X, Korn, Mudvayne, Coal Chamber, Fear Factory, Megadeth, Pantera, and a lot of others I can't think of right now. :P
Fear Factory? They are so not metal. :o

Fear Factory? They are so not metal. :o
According to whom? And have you never heard of Industrial Metal?
"Industrial metal is a musical genre which draws elements from industrial music and heavy metal music. Industrial metal music is usually centered around metal guitar riffs and industrial synthesizer/sequencer lines, as well as heavily-distorted vocals."
"Fear Factory was formed on October 31, 1990 in Los Angeles, California by ex-guitarist Dino Cazares and drummer Raymond Herrera. Characterised by a mix of thrash metal guitar riffs, roaring vocals that make way for melodic singing, pulse driven drum beats, and powerful basslines, Fear Factory have been making waves in both the American death metal and industrial metal scenes since their debut album, Soul of a New Machine (1992)."

well, Axl Rose type stuff and whatnot.
And correction, industrial is more of cut-and-paste with organic and strange sounds with random vocals, and pretty much exudes noise and harshness. It tends to stray far from the mainstream, ex: Throbbing Gristle, Einsturzende Neubauten. I can't stand it when people are like 'industrial metal'. Skillet's Alien Youth wasn't industrial rock, it was electro-rock. (I've never heard Fear Factory, so if they're like that, then whatever)

I can't stand Axl Rose, his "singing" hurts my ear drums.
"Industrial music is a loose term for a number of different styles of electronic and experimental music. First used in the mid 1970s to describe the then-unique sound of Industrial Records artists, a wide variety of artists and labels have since come to be represented under the 'industrial music' umbrella. Depending on whom you ask, this definition may include Avant-garde performance artists such as Throbbing Gristle, Einstürzende Neubauten and Laibach; noise projects like Merzbow or Whitehouse; electronic body music/elektro acts such as Front 242, Skinny Puppy, KMFDM and Nitzer Ebb; electronic rock acts like Nine Inch Nails or Ministry.
The term was meant by its creators to evoke the idea of music created for a new generation of people, previous music being more agricultural. Specifically, it referred to the streamlined process by which the music was being made, although many people later interpreted the word as a poetic reference to an 'industrial' aesthetic, recalling factories and inhuman machinery. On this topic, Peter Christopherson of Industrial Records once remarked, 'the original idea of Industrial Records was to reject what the growing industry was telling you at the time what music was supposed to be.' "
I have a couple of Fear Factory albums, and like it or not, "Industrial Metal" is the closest term to what they sound like.

If you click on the album covers, you're supposed to be able to download one song from each album, but not all the links work.

Have you ever heard of live plasma (http://www.liveplasma.com/)? Run a search for Fear Factory on there and what comes up is Machine Head, Static-X, Slayer, Pantera, Lamb of God, etc. Machine Head and Static-X are the closest to what Fear Factory sounds like. If you really want to know what Fear Factory sounds like, check out the links I posted before.

I like Nonpoint (especially their latest CD "To The Pain), Taproot, that sort of thing.
Nu-Metal is a softer, more melodic version of metal. A prime example would be a band called...Taproot. You can hear their music on their website (http://www.taproot.com. Listen to the track "Facepeeler).

Norma Jean, The Chariot, Haste the Day, Taproot, Lacuna Coil, Linkin Park, Evanescence(if you classify them as metal;I do), Slipknot, As I Lay Dying is good to, though I'm not sure they're christain metal. Have you seen the video for Through Struggle? The end of that vid is weird. Anyways, I think Skillet is christain Nu Metal.
