This thread is for Questions about the rules and stuff of Skynes' Puzzles.

It is NOT for posting Answers or guesses at Answers. Those must be PMed to me (Skynes).

I'm sorry Scott, but this struck me as funny...

Please the numbers in the grid

I post puzzles in "Skynes' puzzles"

You have a week to solve it.

Any questions n stuff you post here, NOT in the Skynes' Puzzles thread, that way it's easy to find the questions from one week to the next and who got it right etc.

Pink Goo I found that error and fixed it :P

Thats what happens when you assume your rushed typeout of last week was correct without going over it, lol

Not even 2 days, and 2 people have got the answer.

Is anyone else working on this?

Im workin on it, ahh reminds me too much of a rubix cube

darn, KCjr. beat me to it. :-P

skynes

12-06-2005, 12:15 PM

Yep she did. Sorry Mike. You'll have to live with 2nd place... For this puzzle. Maybe next time you'll do better ;D

darn, KCjr. beat me to it. :-P

Mwhahahahaha ;)

skynes

She should be disqualified though, cause she admitted to me she's done it before ;)

korey_cooper_jr

12-07-2005, 02:56 AM

Well go right ahead

skynes

12-07-2005, 03:34 AM

Lol. No I won't. You met the requirements and did the puzzle.

I'll just specify better next time ;)

But what's the big deal? I had to figure it out myself in class, and I did. The teacher didn't even tell us what the number was to add it all up to (15)! So if you're saying that I got the answer from some where else, you're mistaken. I had to figure it out just the same AND figure out that it was 15!

skynes

I'm teasing you Amelia. I know you worked it out once.

A couple of ppl have asked me about suggesting puzzles.

Everyone is more than welcome to suggest a puzzle idea to me, I just have a couple of requests on it though:

1. You PM me with it, not post it. No point in telling the puzzle early is there?

2. The suggester may not enter that puzzle. It wouldn't be fair.

3. The puzzle is more logic based, not a riddle. Not one of those "Two halves make a 'w'hole and you escape through the hole" either.

It must be solveable using logic and thinking.

Possibility of Sudoku... Why not. Just not a diabolical difficulty one.

i am totally confused by this week's puzzle. as in, i don't even understand what we're trying to do. do the "-" represent missing numbers? functions? what is the middle block you speak of, the middle number with the dashes on either side or the dash/number in the center column of the group of 9? maybe i just need to sleep, or eat less beef or something, but i am just lost.

PinkGoo

12-12-2005, 10:42 PM

Yeah. Same here. What's the point? What are we trying to figure out?

skynes

12-13-2005, 12:47 AM

Ok, this is the layout.

x - x

- x -

x - x

The dashes are simply spaces. The boards ignore multiple spaces, so the puzzle looks all messed up if I just use white space.

The x's are numbers.

By doing calculations with the 4 border numbers, using +, -, * and / You reach the middle number.

There are two complete 'sets' of numbers.

Use these two to try and figure out the formula to reach the number in the centre.

THEN apply that formula to the 3rd set, the one with the Question Mark, to get the answer.

Does that help?

Ummm... kinda... :o

yes, very much so. thanks. :) will get to it when i have more time.

frymeskillet

12-16-2005, 05:34 AM

yeah it makes alot more sense. thanks. but are you allowed to make any of these numbers negative? i dont think you are, but i was just wondering :P

skynes

12-16-2005, 05:42 AM

You can do what you want with those numbers. Make them negative if you want, but the answer is always positive.

In the answer there is:

One use of Addition

One use of Subtraction

One use of Division

One use of Multiplication

frymeskillet

12-16-2005, 05:55 AM

another thing, are all four functions used in EACH block, because the way im thinking you could only used three functions to connect the four numbers, unless you use one of the numbers twice....is it me or this a problem anyone else is "facing"?

skynes

12-16-2005, 05:59 AM

Each block is a separate puzzle that is solved using the exact same equation.

What works in the first, MUST also work in the 2nd.

Otherwise what you get for the 3rd won't be right.

frymeskillet

12-16-2005, 06:03 AM

okay, thanks!

skynes

12-16-2005, 06:05 AM

To help you along. No negative numbers are used.

frymeskillet

12-16-2005, 06:06 AM

well unfortunately the bell is fixing to ring...i'll try again later....

unshakeable15

12-19-2005, 09:52 PM

i must protest at this past week's puzzle. here is my bone of contention.

21 - 5

- 24 -

17 - 7

21 - 17 = 4

Divide 4 by 2 = 2

where did the "2" in "divide 4 by 2" come from? that's putting a number in there that wasn't originally there! that, my friend, is why no one got it. we had to use all four mathematical equations (plus, minus, divide, muliply) but there being four numbers, we couldn't use all four. so, inserting that extra "2" was, therefore, the only way to win. but, more importantly, it was cheating. you put in a number! that's just wrong.

skynes

12-20-2005, 12:42 AM

If I was able to find the original site I got the puzzle from I'd be able to answer that... But I can't :S

I just used it as was.

lamb_servant72

I finished my box of cookies, I'm ready for another puzzle...

lamb_servant72

01-25-2006, 02:53 PM

...So I can cheat again.

skynes

01-26-2006, 12:46 AM

*cough* Cheater.

I was wondering if anyone was gonna ask about the Puzzles...

unshakeable15

01-26-2006, 04:03 PM

consider this the question then. x2.

lamb_servant72

01-27-2006, 03:46 AM

Yeah, I asked on the 16th, but I figured if I said I cheated, over a week later;D, I might get a response!

skynes

01-27-2006, 04:32 AM

Well, I'll need some time to actually FIND a puzzle. Good puzzles are hard to locate...

FromTheInside

01-30-2006, 10:00 AM

ohh I compleatly missed this thread. >_<

Can I try if you post another one? =D

skynes

01-30-2006, 11:14 AM

Of course. It's open to everyone. I will get another. It's just a matter of finding a good puzzle!

disciple

01-30-2006, 01:40 PM

Scott, if I had been around for that first one... I would have got it in 60 seconds or less.

Scott, if I had been around for that first one... I would have got it in 60 seconds or less.

ditto that because I just had to do about 10 in math class. :-P

You can play only if you go to the Mafia Support Group Thread and say you want to play a game called Survivor.
