Usually when I'm driving, I'll sing along with the lyrics until I know em.

i sometimes look up the lyrics, depending on the songs. for the evanescence cd, i basically learned it all in one day cause i played it nonstop. and i sing along too

I only really learn lyrics of music that I LOVE. What I usually do is get a new CD and if I like it, I listen to it CONSTANTLY, while I'm driving or on road trips with my family and such, and just after hearing a song or songs so much, I usually just start singing along...unless I can't understand what the lyrics are, and then I get online and check it out, hehe...(or look at the lyric sheet if there is one)

I listen to it, look up the lyrics and figure out what the artist is trying to say in the song. Then, the lyrics come a lot easier because I have a grip on the song.
As for drumming goes, I never really "learn" songs. I just come up with things to play during certain parts and see how it developes. I throw different stuff in and take certain things out. I just just kind of play with it.

if the music has alot of screaming in it, like As I Lay Dying or Underoath, I try to pick out as much of it as I can just for fun, then read lyric sheets or get online and see how close I was. After I read them listening to the song 2 or 3 times, I'm able to understand pretty much every word, then I memorize it like a normal song ( singing along to it)

I defintly listen to it non stop. But if it's for an audition and I don't know the song that well I listen on headphones and write down the lyrics, then I sing along while reading. the headphones help me hear it better.

When I want to learn a new song, I do a few things. First off, I drive to India, listening to Three Dog Night, as well as eating applesauce. Diet Pepsi is not my favorite beverage, it's also not Julie's favorite beverage. If it's not Steves, nor Alfreds, what's Julies favorite beverage?
Anyways, I was in India listening to "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp" by Led Zeppelin, when the Simile sisters attacked! It was craaaaazy! Just like Vietnam in 89 during the festival of lights! The Thunderstorms! THE DEALS! THE DEALS NEVER END! THE DEALS DEALS DEALS!!!111!!
So, after the incursion in Greece, we sailed up the Nile river, and met up with the astronauts from the Ivory Coast. We rode unicorns very high into the sky, and quoted messages in the reply! And then we dyed! Get it! We didn't die! We dyed our hair! Our hair was all different colors just like Austrailian Bean Paste!!!
My cat just swallowed its' food. NOOOOOOOOOO WEAR SUNSCREEN N00BZ!!
Anyways, when I want to learn songs I generally drive along singing to the song, and I get it eventually. It sort of funny when I'm driving with other people, and I don't know all the lyrics so I look like an idiot.

I usually listen to the album over and over. [I've been listening to Emery over and over for like a year, and still don't know the lyrics.]

I'm quite frankly shocked that you would say such a hideous thing. :)

I basically listen to the song until I know wnough to not only sing the lyrics but play them on the drums AND sing them. It's a trick I learned from Jeremy Hummel, the former drummer of Breaking Benjamin in an article of Modern Drummer.
