So I go into Youth Group on Wednesday, and notice that 12 other people are there. I thought about it, and 10 of them can play instruments. Those 10 were raised in Christian homes. I was not, and neither were the other 2, and the 3 of us can't play any instrument.

I thought at first it was just coincidence, then I go and think about all of my Christian friends. Almost all that I know that were raised in it can play some sort of instrument. I look on Panheads, and a lot of people on here can play some sort of instrument.

So then I decided to take a look at my non-Christian friends. One of em can play a few chords on guitar, and that's about it. I looked at my extended family, none-of-which are Christians, and none of them play any instruments. I went to school, and looked around at the kids I knew were not Christians, and a few played in their own band, but the rest wouldn't dream of touching one. Then I look at all the Christians I know at school, and almost every single one of them can play instruments.

I even spent a few hours on MySpace looking at Christians profiles, and saw a lot of people who played instruments. Then I looked at non-believers, and a few could here and there, but nowhere near as wide spread as the Christians.

Why is this?

While I can't answer, I grew up in the Lutheran Church and all we had was an organ. The only Christian tape I had was Stryper's To Hell With The Devil... at 13 is when I really started getting serious with music on a more professional level. About 3 years prior I had stopped going to church and was living my own life.

I didn't know any Christians who played instruments other than maybe piano. Maybe this goes to prove more how far behind Christianity is compared to the rest of the world. By the time they become accepting of things, the rest of the world has moved on...

Sing a joyful noise to the Lord.

I'm really not sure why this is, but I'm pretty musiclly inclined.
Mi familia is too(Emma can play Joy to the World, and she's 4)

I can't play an instrument, but I didn't grow up with a happy home life. I had a stepmom who liked to orchestrate my every breath. So spare time to do things like learn how to play an instrument became irrelevant.

I don't notice that trend as much... My whole family plays instruments and/or sings (myself, I play 5 different instruments and sing... but not as well as I'd like). The guys at my church all play guitar but the girls don't. Then I go to school and all my friends play at least two instruments well (usually a guitar and a wind instrument, like sax). Where I am, everyone plays, but the nonchristians are much, much better.
