No... Wierd Al is a poser to the Syd Barret years of Pink Floyd. He is a true genius. Nobody, except for nobody can write songs about nothing that are funny like he can.

Sorry, I just felt like saying this...nobody except me has spelled 'Weird' right. Everyone spells it 'Wierd'. Sorry....

Syd Barret years? Pink Floyd? Weird Al a poser? Please explain these comments!

Greg was looking for a way to put Floyd into this thread. It doesn't need to make sense. :P

No, I was looking to reveal the truth. Syd Barret is a genius when it comes to funny music. Freddie Mercury once thought that he possessed one tenth of the talent that Barret had for writing music like that, but then he realized how wrong he was.

Weird Al is also trying to live up to Barret's glory, but he fails in every respect.

I don't think Weird Al is trying to imitate Syd Barrett. But I don't know...

Has anyone heard of "The Capitol Steps"? They're this troupe that mocks the US Government by parody-ing other songs.

I think I've heard of them. I like to write my own parodys. eg. constipated youth a parody of alien youth and drugie girl parody of barbie girl.

under the banner of "Christians" is Mark Lowry. he's a hilarious comedian and he does parodies of Christian songs.

Everyone, and I mean everyone that tries to make funny songs, they imitate Syd Barret to some degree. He was the pioneer. It's like Ford. Henry Ford came up with the first car, so everyone is trying to imitate him when they come out with their own cars.

Well ill have to check out Syd Barrett.

As for parodies, what really annoys me is all the crude humor. I just dont find songs about being constipated, urinating on national monuments, etc. funny at all.

When did constapation become crude?

If you follow that logic for all things, does that mean that Skillet and other Christian bands are all copying the first ever band that praises God? Come on...... Just because Weird Al and ApologetiX do the same kind of stuff doesn't mean they're trying to copy Syd Barret.

Anyway, the above mentioned artists I said are parody/humor artists I enjoy.
