So why is turning 16 such a big deal for a girl? I mean, I couldn't care less when I turned 16, I spent that time blasting Led Zeppelin and sitting in the Las Vegas International Airport, and I thought I was living high. What's with the huge parties, and all the excitement for it?

(I'm not trying to flame anyone, I'm just curious)

But, boys do also, and they don't make a huge deal of it...

Also, I drove at 15, and so did plenty of girls here. ;)

Whatever.

Maybe it's a big deal for a girl, they finally get freedom to go to the mall by themselves and getting to drive without a permit.

"Developement?" Lol. You know, turning 16, becoming an adult, girls mature faster than boys and, erm, in more areas...16 = comfortability with all the, err, new developements, perhaps.

I am turning 16 soon(next week) and am hecka excited. why? Well I guess...the whole SWEET 16 idea and it feels special somehow...I don't really know why, I guess it feels more grown up becasue you can legally drive by yourself and all that~

(I'm not trying to flame anyone, I'm just curious)They can get married in some states, drive, and I think in some states drop out of highschool.

Pretty much they get to screw themselves over if they wanted to! Yay! Party time! Superhappyfuntime! Fun for all! Happy long time!

But also, my friend's goal in life (he said, in a serious tone) is to understand the female mind. He claims he has a similar one to them, so it won't be SO hard. Anyway, I'll give you his number when he figures it out. He'll tell you, I am sure. Unless he gets stupid and hogs all the wealth.

On top of that...

My 16th, nothing much.

I want to celebrate my 1337th birthday though. Cuz I am like that.

You're not as 1337 as Isildur9473. Pwn3d.

Anyways, I guess that's it, driving, and the ability to drop out of school like a productive member of society.

I always thought sweet 16 was one of those parties that started out as one of those "coming out" parties that parents would throw for their children, kinda like a quincinetta, to basically tell the world that they were coming into adulthood and could start recieving interest from males and such. America has lost traditions like celebrating when a child becomes and adult, so now it's just kinda an excuse to party even more for this birthday than the last. *shrugs* I dunno...

My sister got 60 goldfish for her sixteenth birthday. But they all die. One of them survived for about two years, then my mom accudentally filled his tank with beach.

I've never known anyone that has made a big deal about tunring 16 other than my step mom did when we all turned 16 but i think that was mostly cause my older brother was trying to get as much out of them as he could, and even then it was just that they spent more on the gift and that was pretty much it and they did it with the guys and the girls

wow.. more guys disscussing this than the girls I am seeing ;) well..seeing as how I turned 16 last year.. I shall search my brain to find an answer to Greg's original question.. I would say that many girls have nothing exciting happen to them in life (*raises hand here*) so 16 seems like a logical excuse to throw a party

Maybe it's because of the fact that You are just about a woman....and also, Parents actually used to give cars on a 16th birthday.....haha, times have changed (unless you're a spoiled brat)

I really don't know why its called a sweet 16....tradition I guess....maybe the movie sixteen candles has something to do with this....*wonders* or not...

morgojw
