It originally meant "Lots of Love", they taught us this in school.

Yeah, the teacher said in the mid 90's that's what it meant. I think she would know, it sounded like she was in her 20's then.

Haha, I asked my mom what "LOL" meant... just to see what she would say and she answered "Lots of love, of course."
Ha.

I have another n00b question. What dose pwn and pwn3 mean?
Isildur9473
02-26-2006, 08:28 PM
Pwn means Own, Pwn3 means nothing, I think you're looking for Pwn3d which means Owned.

'IMHO'
I think it is funny to reflect on the stupidity of mankind.

I still think that ridiculous pwned and all variations should be obliterated from existence.
PinkGoo

Oh yeah? Why? :P
It's stupid. Why not write "owned" instead of "pwn3d"? Is it that tough? It's ridiculous how netspeak has infiltrated the english language and it needs to stop. Now.

I think it is fun.
It serves as a reminder that while we have such complex, intelligently designed computers... humans are still stupid.
Irony is fun.
But, I'd like to stress that it's ANNOYING. And I don't find the irony, wherever it is, to be funny. I'm sure I'm not alone on this one.

I think using it can be humorous at the right times, and by that I mean not very often.
However, 1337 sp34k is very irritating and frankly a bit immature, if I do say so myself.

The 3 in "pwn3d" and "pwned" and "pwn'd" are all 1337 sp34k, aka l331 speak, aka leet speak.

Some would say the same about writing in all caps. ::]

there's a distinct difference between typing in all caps and typing a single word in caps for emphasis. Granted, I prefer to use _some_ *other* kinds of emphasis, but there is nothing really wrong with THIS on a single word. :)

I'm with Will on that. On some sites I go to, there is no other way to put an emphasis on words.

I personally think it's great for some things, but not all the time. It's best kept on the Internet.

You have to be kidding me. . .
