What does or doesn't make your state a great place to live?

Here is my views of living in Maryland.

Pros....The weather is pretty good...we don't get hit with earthquakes, hurricanes or tornadoes a lot. We have the four seasons which is nice.I also like the fact that with a couple a hours drive we can be at either the ocean or in the mountians. It is the home of the Orioles,Ravens and the Terps. MD also gives the world some of the best crabcakes ever eaten.

Cons...Tax rate...it is in the top five states for highest taxes...the latest one being a "flush tax"...a tax on sewer and septic users. Since Md is so close to DC if some crazy dictator nukes Washington then we are toast.

On a scale of 1-10 i give MD a 7

Well, for California, the pros would be the Mexican food, no extreme weather, things to do with friends, availability of jobs, and where I was at every major thing was just a few hours drive. The cons were the heat in the summer, the smog, the overabundance of city and people creating no room for country, gangs/drug dealers/prostitutes living in the poor section of town right next to a nice section...etc.
For Pennsylvania, pros, beautiful country, no people, if you want quiet, you can easily find it, you can actually see the stars, and you can breath real, non-polluted air. Cons, not much to do but "hang out" or go online, not too many jobs available, no Mexican food :( , and even going to some small event usually takes awhile to drive to, let alone the big events.
*shrugs* I like the atmosphere in PA better than CA, but oh that Mexican food... ;)

Hmmm, Kansas...

Cons: The wind (hooray for 60 mph wind gusts on cloudless days! ::]), rednecks/hicks driving pick ups either like maniacs or like an 80 year old half blind grandma, employers who would rather hire immigrants (legal or not) at almost half the normal wage and with no benfits (sad, but true ::]), tornado season which lasts from March till November, jengoistic ultra conservative farmers, hit or miss weather, etc.

Pros: ...wide open space.

I'm sorry, but you have it backwards; I know you must've moved from a warmer place, so that's why.

I don't consider 2 months of bitter cold Winter, just... cold Autumn. I think maybe it's 2 months Winter, 3 months Spring, 4 months Summer... what remains in Autumn. 6 months Winter? That's an insanely drastic exaggeration. Fall is supposed to be col here, and the bitter cold starts usually November or December, lasts 2 months. Early Spring is just hit-and-miss weather; sometimes it's the right temperature, sometimes it's Summer heat, other times it's downright cold.

Cons: Denver is pretty liberal. So theres always some political thing going on down there. VERY DRY. Have fun breathing when you get down here. We dont get enough rain so we can only water three days a week. Real World is gonna be filmed here...and traffic is bad.

Crack open an atlas. Look at the maps in there. The Alleghenies. The Appalachians. Those are mountains. I'm sorry, but if you don't think that there are mountains in Pennsylvania - or any place up and down the eastern half of the United States, you're going to have to go back and take another geography class. Some mountains are larger than others. The Appalachians are much older; therefore, the erosion of hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years has made them less 'pointy' and more rounded in shape, and not as tall. But they are still mountains.

I just thought you should know that my feelings about Idaho haven't changed. I still hate the state quite a bit. I find that the more time I spend within its confines, the more I grow to dislike it. The problem is, sometimes I find a minor positive quality about it, and I'm forced to like it for a little while. After that, I realize how horrible the state truly is, and then I'm back to my former state of hatred. The hatred is the best way to go when it comes to Idaho.

I'm sure northern Michigan (as well as Ohio) gets humid in the summer, but it is nothing when being compared with Texas, Miami, New Orleans, and other areas of the south. Seriously, they have the humidity for a longer period of time, and it's much worse. I've been in New Orleans and in Florida and in St. Louis in the summer; it's much worse there than in Cleveland, believe me.
