$2.50 for a ringtone? that's crazy. How are ringtones normally installed onto a phone? are they generally sent to the phone as an MMS message? what format are they normally? I like standard telephone rings, so I've never gotten into ringtones, but if someone knows anything about this stuff we can see about setting some up here on PH (minus the $2.50 price tag). We already have permission from the band to host clips of the songs on our music page, so changing them into whatever ringtone format shouldn't be a problem.

timmyrotter
07-03-2006, 04:18 PM
yeah they are sent as mms or maybe its sms is there a difference? i believe they just text them to you. thats what i know.

SMS refers to text only. MMS is multimedia.

oh, thats helpful. the one i paid for was 2.99$ and it didnt ever get sent to me... so if we got something set up here thatd be sweet. make sure though you have both Poly and the real one, so people with crappy phones can use them.

make sure though you have both Poly and the real onewhat do you mean? what kind of formats are these? I know some phones will simply play mp3s as the ringer, so those are no problem. What about others? is it WAV? MIDI? other?

yeah Timmy I had to call Cingular cuz I couldnt find the ones I thought i got from a reliable addy (just thought it was reliable cuz its the one CIngular put to the phones) and I was ready to put A LITTLE MORE for my ring and couldnt find it newhere. so I looked for OPEN WOUNDS and it wasnt there. they r going to credit my acc $8 ... so now looking for one that HOPEFULLY works too.

timmyrotter
07-03-2006, 11:46 PM
all i know is that they most commonly use mp3 now, but older and cheaper phones use polyphonic witch is basically just a series of different pitched beeps. i dont know the format for them though

I can do some ringtones for you (midi only)

alorian
07-04-2006, 01:44 AM
If you have the right phone you can record some of the song yourself and text it to yourself, then apply it as a ringtone. You've gotta gauge the distance from the speaker to the phone, though, or it'll sound like crap :P depends on the phone and service too, though

I just listen to the ringtones on the preview players and then go into my Temporary Internet Files cache and copy them out, heh. Rename it, e-mail it to my cell phone (comes as a pix message w/audio), and voila - ringtone. Got the Whispers one that way. It rocks.

What are you talking about? It's a blatant money making scheme by the cell phone comapines. I can buy an entire song for <$1, and $3+ is a good deal for a few seconds of a song? Yeah, right. And since you seem to be referring to my method, it's not illegal. They gave me the music when they downloaded it to my computer. I'm just not a chump who's going to pay to dl something I've already dl'ed for free from the exact same source.

Actually, you had to physically save the song, they only provided the stream. It's basically the same as the clips from JFH. To copy and save them is illegal. Your system cashe automatically deletes them after a specifid amount of time. Under the digital millennium copyright act, to download copyrighted material without expressed permission is not permitted. Whether they are 5 second clips or whole songs, if it is copyrighted material, it's illegal.

Plus, that company still pays royalties to Skillet with every sale.

I have all kinds of Skillet ringtones on my phone..all for free. I just text an mp3 ringtone file to my phone through this website:

http://www.funformobile.com/pages/ringtone/uploadRingtone.php

Your phone has to have the internet in order to download it though. All you have to do is follow these directions to make the ringtone:
http://www.funformobile.com/pages/help/helpMp3.php

If you can't make one, you can email me and ill do it for you. Hope that helps!

it's a sanyo katana.
For example you can buy Bluetooth USB adapter. Something like this:
http://shop.euroset.ru/images/2795_PC850.jpg
In your phone should be Bluetooth.
By means of this adapter, you can transfer files (midi or mp3, photos etc) to phone from a computer...

TRACY! WAIT! If your phone supports pix messages and can use the ringtone that you have on hand (many have different capabilities, can play mp3's, can only play up to polyphonic, different size requirements, etc.) than ALL you have to do is use yahoo, gmail, or somesuch (I know hotmail doesn't work) and e-mail it to your phone as an attatchment. It only works correctly for one song at a time, in my experience, but past that it's just a picture message from an e-mail account. Don't waste money on cables etc. when you don't have to.

That is, if you have email. My phone does not (it doesn't even have games... unless you are a math nerd who likes to play with calculators). My only option is a chord or to record it onto the phone itself using it's crappy mic (which i have thought about).

theelectric3
09-22-2006, 01:41 PM
i did have web access on my phone, and still could if i wanted to pay $15 a month. but i don't... not know anyway because i don't use the web enough to justify the extra $15... besides... i still like the computer better for web anyway. :P

so i'm gonna look into the buying the chord to go from my phone to the computer.

thanks anyway Amos!

My brother and I have Cingular, and if you just connect to the ringtones and search Skillet you can d/l all the Comatose song clips, which are pretty decent. I'm not sure how much it was, but I think it was only the standard rate for d/l'ing ringtones.

That's what I did. So I have a lot of ringtones, but no one ever calls me. ;D Unfortunately, ringtones do not sound good on my phone. Too much static.

I have Cingular as well, but the phone I have doesn't support Skillet's ringtones, for some strange reason. ??? Ah, well, back to my bland generic ringtone, lol.
