Unless it's recent and I haven't heard of it, but the latest I've heard that he was using a Traben bass guitar. You can find them in musiciansfriend.com

Hahaha, that backround was a pain to put up that day. One of our guys had to actually climb the truss system with the backround in hand and tie it up one string at a time. Then at the end, John dropped his bass when swinging it around his neck. I thought it was gone but I guess it still worked till he dropped it again a couple weeks later busting it in two.

Just saw Skillet tonight. John definitely has a new bass. It's red, and it looks smaller than the old one. Not sure exactly what it is, though.

Hey I'm curious what gear the rythym and lead guitarists of skillet currently use and what they used when recording collide?

If you know... I would be interested to know what amps, guitars, pickups (active or passive?) and also what pedals (if any) that they use? And what cabs and speakers?

Skillet rocks!

Thanks!

i know ben has a tube screamer, a DD6 digital delay, a green line6 pedal...sorry the exact model name slipped my mind...

that's all that i can think of right now. i'll think on it some more and let you know if anything else comes to mind. (maybe someone on here can offer more input.)

Hey, all,

I was wondering what guitar effects Ben Kasica uses for his guitars. I am pretty sure he uses marshall amps (correct me if I am wrong) but I would be interested in knowing what kind of stomp boxes and what not he uses. Thanks everyone,

I don't know anything about his rig, I'm a bassist and we're above such things as distortion. ;)

Lol, yeah, I am mainly a bassist as well, but I have been learning electric now, so I have lowered myself to such despicable things, such as distortion. So, yeah, if anybody had any ideas, that would be AWESOME!!! Thanks

Well, I know they used to use GMP guitars, but at the last show I went to it looked like they were using PRS guitars. Which is sad because I liked Korey's red GMP with the stars. :(

Skillet uses Mesa Amplification. Although I have seen Ben and Korey use Marshall Amps before. I believe their Marshalls are just back up. I've owned a Mesa Triple Rec. before and liked it much better than any Marshall I've played. But again it's about personal preference. But Ben uses a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier and Korey uses a Mesa Dual Recto-verb. But it's been few months since I've seen them so it may have changed. It is unfortunate that GMP went out of business and Skillet has moved on to PRS. I've played both and the PRS didn't hold a candle to the GMP. But considering they get endorsed by PRS, they get free guitars made for them. But Ben still pulls out his Pawn Shop Special and Roxie from time to time, well as Korey with her stared Pawns Shops. It makes me happy to see them play GMP still. But If I was given free PRS's I'd play them, haha. I own a GMP Elite Bass and it's my main axe. I've compared it to every Warwick, Music Man, etc. I could find and nothing has yet to beat it's playability and tone.

As far as effects they use I know off the top of my head Ben uses a:
Vox Wah
Line 6 Delay
Proco Rat
Ibanez Tube Screamer
Digi Tech Whammy 4
I know he has so much more....but that's all I could remember off the top of my head. Plus being a musician myself and playing in a band I buy new equipment all the time and continuously change my set up...so I'd have to see he stuff more recently. My band is playing at Cornerstone this year and we get backstage passes....so if I'm lucky maybe I can check out his stuff. =]

He still uses it? I know he did at one time....but I haven't seen it around the last couple of shows I've seen them. He probably only pulls it out for more major gigs when he wants to switch between a creaner distortion and a really ballzy one....it is an extra piece of equipment to load, take out and hook up. Of course he has people to do it for him. lucky.

It is unfortunate that GMP went out of business and Skillet has moved on to PRS.

So that's why they switched...I was wondering about that...

This should just be the equipment thread. Does anyone know what kind of keyboard Korey has now? I liked her Korg Triton.

She still uses her Triton, though I don't know how much longer it will last. It's starting to get very road worn.

When I saw them this past weekend she had a sleeker, newer keyboard. That's why I was wondering what she replaced the Triton with, there was no visible brand name on the new one.

why on earth would GMS stop..they had a good business going didn't they? and that doesn't mean her guitars are gone..because they were hers weren't they?? why would she get rid of her keyboard??

terrasin
05-07-2007, 11:59 PM
GMP closed shop because they couldn't keep up with the market. Their guitars were horridly expensive for being a not very well known company, so they just couldn't sell enough guitars to really stay in business.

The band still has their old guitars, but they have an endorsement from another company. That means free gear for using it. Plus, they are with a better, more well known guitar company now.

As for the keyboard... instruments get worn and damaged on the road. Things like keyboards only last a few years because of all the banging around, falling, bouncing, etc. they do while in trucks, being moved, etc.

Exactly, keyboards are more like computers, very technological--if you were to put your computer in a box & throw it into the trunk of your car every day it would wear out pretty fast. ;)

ok, i read all this a long time ago, this is the stuff ben had for collide. He uses a Real McCoy Custom Wah, an Ibanez Tube Screamer, a Tech 21 XXL, a MXR dynacomp, a VooDoo Lab Sparkle Drive, a Boss SD-2, and a Line 6 Delay Modeler. For an amp he uses a Vox AC30 with Celestion Blue speakers. He also uses a Mesa Engineering Dual Rectifier head and a Hughes and Kettne head (Both with Mesa cabnits.) and john uses a mesa boogie cab (don't remember all the specs on it) i wonder what guitars their going to start using now that GMP is out. um, i think korey's keyboard is a Nord Lead 2x Virtual Analog. at least that's the one they show in the studio footage
