So I have seen some discussions on "Rebirthing" and "Whispers In The Dark" hitting secular radio. I think Rebirthing would be a better single for secular radio. What do you guys think? Also, do you think the videos will actually be played on MTV2 and Fuse?

Whispers is the only one to be released to secular radio, next tuesday in fact! so that will be the only one played on MTV2 or VH1 or FUSE. rebirthing is a good song, but will not me on secular radio.

that's a shame, i hope that there may eventually be another song that they release later, even if it isn't rebirthing. because after whispers, they won't be able to get enough of skillet!

is Whispers going to be requestable, say, on all radio stations, or is it only going to be released to a select few?

i think stations get all the music that is available, and they decide whci ones to play. so it cant hurt to request. im looking forward to the last night as a second rock single.
Ben go to edit post, and you can delete it.

I work in radio....here is what happens.

Radio play lists are actually highly scientific in most cases. This means focus groups and listening sessions by paid people willing to take these surveys.

Once the data is compiled on what type of single it is, and what the response of the same group was, it then gets pitched by labels to either the music directors of the stations themselves, or to an industry sales consultant which acts as a proxy between the labels and the stations and recommends play lists.

Every once in a while a smaller or independent radio station will throw in a song or two that does not come from this method (think Kill Hannah). But that is the exception and not the rule.

So Skillet has a very slim chance of getting airplay on secular stations regardless of how many requests are made (most stations rarely even their phones these days), unless there is a GREAT deal of money behind the album. Since Skillet is on Lava/Atlantic/whoever they stand a much better chance of airplay than if they were backed by Ardent.

i dont know what you are trying to say. of course they have a better chance to be played secular with Lava/Atalantic than ardent. ardent/sre would never releease thier songs to secular radio in the first place.

i dont know what you are trying to say. My point was that even though they have a much better chance of getting airplay now, their chances are still slim to none based upon the working playlist models of modern radio.

i dissagree, collide was done in ardent studios, and lava promoted it. savior made it to like #20 and 550+ plays on the active rock chart. and hovered there for awhile. it also made like #34 on the billboard modern rock chart. and since comatose was done in an atlantic studio, more money in it. i cant see them promoting it any less, remember the record labels are in it for the money, they want skillet to do good. so i dont see how they cant make it up to the top, not saying they will, but it is possible. at least rock charts. top 40 is another story, thats corrupt, they are the ones who play based on popularity ie: jessica simpson, kevin federline, Paris hilton, even though they suck.

When you are talking about these charts, are you referring to album sales or spins on the air?

timmyrotter

i said "plays" meaning spins as you say. according the radioandrecords.com im sure you are familiar with it. i know what im tlaking about, i study these things.

so far as I know they are making both at the same time, too

they already made both vids, and whispers is the only one on secular radio.

Yeah, "Whispers In The Dark" will be released to Rock stations first (specifically "Active Rock" stations) and if it hits Top 20 at Active Rock radio it will automatically be added to Alternative radio. Alternative has a larger audience so this is obviously a good thing.

timmyrotter
09-16-2006, 12:15 AM
heritage too man, i think that is a new format. whispers doesnt seem very heritagy, but we'll take what we can get.

Does anyone know if Whispers is getting released to Canadian stations as well? How would I know if it gets released to any local stations?

Starbucks5721

THAT is an INSANELY SMALL amount of radio stations!!!! What on earth decides who gets what when? And what about all the other stations, anyways? I know nothing about radio...

timmyrotter
09-16-2006, 12:03 PM
rachel, i know savior and Open wounds were never released to canadian. so you ccan always request it.
Lynn, niether active rock, or heritage are large formats. thats why when a single moves to a certain point on one of those charts, it gets released to Alternative, or HAC etc.
