... just though i'd like to let this out as i've been so ready fro this for a while now.

Skillet's coming to play at a place not half a mile from my house!!!! :D woo!!! and its so awesome cause so many musicians are in camarillo and theres like no real places to play... cause camarillo sucks... but it will rule when skillet comes :)(or rather when God is ushered in through skillet)

don't mind me, just changing the subject title. -unshakeable.

Hey now watch who's church your criticizing....lol That's my church. It's got it's quirks as far as a venue. However I would never call it the worst. Tho getting in line is not amusing there. I'll go 3 or 4 hours early if I have to. And believe me I know what happens. I've seen Skillet everytime they have played there. And they rock reguardless of how unpleasant the lining up process is.

I stand by my comment but I will withold my reasoning since there are people here who attend there. I also don't care much for that church itself, but again, same comment.

Yeah, maybe Harvest isn't the best venue to see a band at........but that is because it isn't just a concert, it is an outreach/Bible study. I'd rather see Skillet at a "real" concert, but if Skillet is going to play at a church then Harvest is the one I prefer.

Woo Hoo! I can hardly wait to see them again. ;D ;D ;D

Actually I really enjoyed the concert at Calvary Chapel High Desert. I used to attend there about 6 years ago and it was nice to see the youth pastor speak. I didn't get to before. Yeah I'd like to say that I live in Riverside... Ill be there on the 8th. It will be my 5th or 6th time there for Skillet. I saw them once in Corona and It was a great show there were even pits. The difference was that it was outside and more for teens so it was a blast. When I see them at Harvest I think they know that older people are there so they tone it down a bit. Eitherway I love seeing Skillet Live. I'll probably be there about 12:00pm. So see ya there!

Hey now I resemble that remark. lololol I'll give any of you teens a run for you money in a pit... Harvest doesn't tone it down for the "older" people..... I live 5 minutes from Harvest so hey nieghbor!!!!

12-19-2003, 04:26 PM
Actually, Harvest has asked the band to tone down several aspects of their 'performance/appearance'. So yeah... things are definitely a little different when they play Harvest. But I like the setup okay. No complaints.

skilletosis
12-19-2003, 09:03 PM
That's odd. What is there to tone down? I didn't see a whole lotta difference between playing at Harvest and Calvary Chapel High Desert. In fact at Magic Mountain the only differences I thought were lighting, set length, and John preaching. But the preaching part I would figure was just due to time restraints. One thing I wish they would do at Harvest is have the lights set up. Well that and more speakers, ya know cuz I like it LOUD..... lol But there's a difference between a concert and a Sunday night musical guest. Either way I love it....

terrasin
12-20-2003, 07:54 AM
Last time I was at Harvest, they played mostly worship music, which was ok cause we were in the mood for it. What I didn't like is that we had to stay in our seats (which were so tight together we couldn't even raise our hands). We tried to get in the isle twice and they pushed us back in. Plus, I don't like their preacher or a majority of the pastors there. He is a bit... off.... and the others have such an unwilling/unaccepting heart. They all think they are right and everyone else is wrong. Like putting yourself on a petastool above everyone else.

CJ

skilletosis
12-20-2003, 08:45 AM
Terra that's really unfortunate. I've never been forced to my seat when getting up to take pictures there. But ya know you can't stay up there for a long time. And the seats are only as tight as people will allow themselves to squish in. When they ask people to make room for more (which they do at every Sunday night service) I wont scoot over unless there's plenty of space for me to be comfortable. I refuse to squish. In the 10 years I've gone to Harvest I've never felt unwelcomed. It's one of the most laid back accepting churchs' there is. You can go in jeans and a t-shirt or dressed to the nines and nobody cares. And if you think it's because you wear make up and a wild hair style think again. It doesn't matter if you are at a church or in a mall people will do a double take. Even John has said in interviews that you will get looked at when walking around looking like a rock star. But that's a choice we all make when we choose to dress in the way that we do. Man we used to have a bass player in the worship band with purple hair. And with that are you the dude I saw there with the make up and the feather hanging in your hair a couple of years ago? As far as the pastor goes. I've seen most of them speak and can tell you that they stick with the word. They don't go off on any extrabiblical ideas. And they don't water down the word. Greg is a great bible teacher and awesome evangelist. Steve's a hyper nut. The Sunday night services are more of an evangelistic outreach than a bible study series. Of course they preach the word but I'm sure you understand the difference.

I would say that your experience there was very unordinary. As a long time member of Harvest I'm extending a personal invitation to come to my church again and give it another try.

laxonite
12-20-2003, 02:13 PM
Well from where I live (by RCC) to the heart of Palm desert it's about 75 miles for Escondido it's 72 so not any big deal there. In Palm it says it's to be announced where it will be Escondido it says c28 I've never been to either so the decideing factor would be if it's a concert or if it's just a guest band at the church. I'd rather go to the one with a concert. :)

12-20-2003, 06:14 PM
That's odd. What is there to tone down? I didn't see a whole lotta difference between playing at Harvest and Calvary Chapel High Desert.Well.. remember the invincible clothing era? Yeah... that was about the time Skillet was invited to do Day7 for the first time. But it was conditional: Go buy some new clothes.

The band thought that was kinda stinky. :P I think things have probably changed a little since then. As far as I can tell, though, it's the band's style that has changed. Not Harvest's picky-ness.

skilletosis
12-20-2003, 10:26 PM
How funny. I didn't really notice that. But then again on the invinsible tour I got stuck on the wrong side of the church and the lights were down. So I really didn't notice. Also I grew up in the leather and spandex age so you really got to be outlandish to get me to notice. I sort of miss the invinsible clothes. Oh well times change, styles change. Can't wait to see you there.

I guess we'll see. :)

theelectric3

ok, i have been to the escondito event [saw rock and roll worship circus there - beautiful glow tour].

lights: not the best

location: outside the escondito mall, on grass.

admission: free

band signing?: yes, in front of the c28 store in the mall [at least, that is how it was when i was there.]

will john preach?: probably not. the guy who puts it on gave a short sermon last time. who knows though, maybe he'll hand the mic to john. we'll have to wait and see.
--

one thing that is really cool about it is the fact that it is outside, in the middle of the mall, so people shopping can hear the music and come check 'em out.

when i was there, a Dad was there with a friend and his daughter [maybe...8 or 9?] and the daughter bought a pic and got it signed by rrwc. her dad was asking me about rrwc and he had shopping bags with him. he was surprised at how nice rrwc was to his daughter - you could tell he was impressed. and it was obvious they were there to shop - but got an extra bonus that night.

so it is really more of an outreach. which is exciting...more exposure for the bands. [though, if i remember correctly, the bands cannot sell their cds. people have to get them at the c28 store. which is stinky because it takes away buisness for the bands...]

yeah, that's the basic info. :) and if i remember correctly, it ended pretty early....9, maybe? something like that. but the mall stays open for c28 - so that's cool.

i hope more info comes about the palm desert one.

Hm.... itickets (http://www.itickets.com/search.html?selectName=1&sw=skillet) actually has two shows listed for the same day at both locations. One at 4pm and the other at 7pm. Sneakysneaky.

School starts the 26th of this month and Mr. Chrishna is still very ill so time is one of those precious commodities I seem to be lacking. :( However, I will be attending Day7 on the 8th and Visalia on the 15th. They're the closest venues to me. My plans are only tentative so anything could change. You should do the Visalia show on your way home! Provided you're driving, of course. It's right on the way! :)

true, it's on the way. but it's two days after! it doesn't take that long to get home! plus, even if i stayed at my aunts house an extra day & drove to the Visalia show, i'd be dead driving all night to get back in time for monday's class. i thought about it, but it doesn't quite work logistically. :- quite a bummer tho.

Ok, I kinda figured something like that.We will be insanely early as well as it is always crowded there on saturday anyway! this will be interesting to see!! the C-28 employees told us that they needed to get the flyers out because the mall management said they needed a good turn out " for the mall". That just cracks me up! The phrase becareful what you ask for comes to mind. They have thier motives and God has His.
It was easier from the other board because we just all met in the lobby of the hotel and knew each because we were holding the latest book.

THANK YOU PANHEADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just had to say thanks to all of you who signed my niece's b'day card. I even got the whole band to sign. It was a tricky mission. I basically ditched my niece and daughter in the autograph line and walked up to the front and got the band to sign. When Ben signed I asked him if he would hand the card to my neice. He said yes! So I went and got her and he gave it to her. She was caught completely off guard. It was a total surprise. Mission accomplished. THANK YOU PANHEADS!!!! you made it a success.

I know, it was an awesome concert in Visalia!! The only thing that dissapointed me was that we weren't in the front, but it was still so cool. And it was so funny when that guy jumped up on stage and grabbed the mike :D !! Can't wait for rach to get the pics up, she got to go up on stage! Wow, it was just so cool, my first skillet concert, and they played 13 songs too!!

After the Camarillo show, the Visalia show was a bit of a let down. My seat was going to be given away...they didn't let us bring our skillets in, which we smuggled in anyway, the crowd was terrible (they mocked Skillet and the panheads), the venue and security were lagging....and Phil (the sound guy) came up to talk with me before the show and he told me i was going to be disappointed. As they only ran the vocals through the sound system, and had trouble with the guitar amps. But thanks to Phil, everything ran as good as it possibly could have. As it wasn't loud enough, and Korey's keys overpowered John's voice at times. The only thing that didn't suck was Skillet. They still rocked, even if the sound sucked.

Needless to say, Harvest was better than Visalia, and it was closer to home. Ah well. Camarillo rocked. I'm lucky i got to go to all three.

There's so very much happening right now, that I'm not so sure if we're all going to be able to make it to tomorrow night's show.. :(

i'm glad you ened up going after all. :) it wouldn't have been the same without ya. the concert was good, don't get me wrong, but the hanging out afterwards was very fun & very cool. :D

Garth, i didn't think Visalia was all that bad. sure, the crowd took 3 or 4 songs to get moving, but they did. i didn't see anyone mocking panheads. & the sound was good (imo). i didn't notice any weird sound problems (besides Korey's keyboard difficulites). maybe that was just me tho.

Couldn't disagree more.

It was a great show. The after party at In-N-Out was great as well. Probably better than the show. ;)

I'm glad we went too, Mike. It was great meeting you and hanging out. Hope to do it again sometime.

However I must say that it was very nice finally meeting Mike, and Josh too. The security guys were so easygoing with Tracy and I about getting up front and on the stage to get pictures. I know we had a great time [and we were stuck nearly in the back of the auditorium]. Guess I can't speak for everyone. I guess some people should've just stayed home.

i must say they rocked in cali. it was so cool getting to hang out with panheads and with skillet. and getting to finally see the rig! :)

day 7 was...day 7. nothing real exciting. the sound was pretty shabby, but they still put on a good set.

palm desert - skillet put out a LOT of energy. the crowd wasn't real into it. but the worship that night was amazing. angels fall down was...wow...i realized how much i missed hearing that song live.

camarillo - good rock show. the crowd got into them. [kudos to garth for the show. thanks for putting the show on.] the only thing that annoyed me was the fact that some guy that kept taking pics of the crowd. i was like, "ok...we're here to see the band...not you and your camera." lol. esp, during the worship. my eyes were closed and i would see flashes. that got me kinda mad because i wasn't worshiping so i would get on his camera. and i wasn't rocking out to get on his camera. oh well.

temecula - the BEST rock crowd. seriously. everyone was screaming the words. [crowd serving and moshing] the band went crazy. ben came real close to crowd surfing. numerous times john almost stepped on me and ben almost fell on me [he thought it was awesome. lol.]. it was fun. i was shoved into the stage a lot [i have bruses to prove it] but it was worth it. :) ya gotta be willing to rock under all circumstances. ;)

visalia - the people putting on the show were so nice to us. Skillet rocked hard but the crowd wasn't really into it. they screamed and all that but weren't rocking. there were a few spots with people moving, but overal, no. after saturday's show...it was hard to beat.

alex is so cute. and it was nice getting to talk with john, korey, lori and ben more. overal, i had a great time.

i didn't understand the whole bird wing thing at the visalia show...did you see people doing that? was it due to the cover?

i'm glad we got there when we did, otherwise we would have been in the overflow room.

all the concerts i went to were good in their own ways. you find a balance at each. so i don't even really have a favorite. i think what i enjoyed the most was being with friends. it's kinda sad that it takes a skillet show for us to get together...but hey, that's alright. at least we get together.

i wrote about what i thought here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/about_worth), and i don't really feel like repeating myself, :). so if you're extremely interested in my point of view, you can have fun reading it on my lj.

michael, it was great meeting you, btw! glad you got home safely! (him, chrishna and i had fun rocking out in the back of the church last night while tracy and rach were paparazzi-ing. even kelly danced a bit with me! she NEVER does that!) :)

Visalia was so fun. Skillet never comes to Northern California, sadly, and Visalia is about as north as they ever come. Perhaps the largely uncharted territory explains why much of the crowd identified more with a junior high youth outing than a rocking Skillet concert. Minor annoyances aside, it was a great show and wonderful to hear such a full set.

My friends, brother, and I planned to find the venue, then scout out some dinner, then stand in line. By the time we got there, the line was thick. So, we decided to suffer a bit of hunger to make sure we didn't get stuck in the overflow (which, by the way, we could plainly see while in line, giving us much ambition to avoid it). And suffer we did. John asked us to stay awhile, and after everyone was booted out we had the privilege of hanging out with John before the rig almost left without him.

From our conversation, panheads have much to look forward to. :D You'll be kept up to date with everything on the Skillet mailing list.

Well, unfortunately I don't have the time or money to go see every single show skillet does in the western half of the united states, so visalia was good enough for me. I loved it. I thought the crowd was fine. I jumped around and got into it, but I think Skillet was a little different than what most of the church goers who attended the concert thought they were going to be, so they were shocked at first. yes, i got stuck into the overflow, but i managed to sneak into the main area after a few minutes. I think it is a GOOD thing that so many people came. But hey, that's just me. I'll take what I can get.

it was great seeing a full set again. and the sound was great considering the short sound check that they usually do. Ben said it usually takes a couple of hours to set up. They did it in about a half hour. You could tell that they really want it to sound good. They sounded totally better than the other bands. We had a great time despite the occasional wannabe moshers we had to set straight. It was great seeing you panheads, sorry I missed you tofu... Maybe next time...

Oh heh, sorry I missed you also, My son and I were safely standing on the grass on the right side of the stage and got a good view. hey, um, onto lighter notes...

i forgot to mention this in my journal...but these were the first set of skillet concerts where i didn't "freak out" just to "freak out." it actually became an act of worship, as strange as that may sound. the account of David dancing before the ark of the covenant kept coming to mind..."i'll become even more vile/undignified than this." and it was powerful. so it became so much more than me flailing around to have fun, but to give glory to God for who He is. i prayed so much during their sets...it was very, very amazing. every night was a different prayer focus. these became more than just times of "concert rock out for fun." there was warfare involved, spiritual in nature.

heh, that probably sounds quite weird.

Skillet in Camarillo rocked! The newspaper press was there, Skillet's manager was there, and the hard core panheads were there too. The sound system was the best money could buy and Skillet was CRANKED TO ELEVEN (borrowed that from Audio A) LOL. Skillet rocked like never before. The first 7 rows (7...thats a nice number) were jumping up and down. It was a sight to behold! They even had a local Christian radio station come out to MC the show. To top the evening...Blaze Promotions gave away a NEW electric guitar signed by SKILLET (bag included).
I am with Blaze Promotions (aka Garths mom) woo hoo. Garth got to go on stage and pull the winners name. So so cool. The next day, we had breakfast with skillet at a bed and breakfast. John was eating the homemade chocolate chip pancakes and said, "These are so good, I think Im gonna cry". Baby Alex is a sweetie! (of course you already know that) DUH!!
I looked at her and said, "Baby John Cooper". She got happy, shook her head yes and said "Poopah Poohah". We all laughed at that. Anyway, in closing, if you were at this show, I hope you had a good time. We did our best. It was our first concert we put together. Hoping Skillet will be back in Camarillo this summer. Take care and God Bless You All !!!

Remember when he hopped off the stage and onto the stack of speakers to do some fancy-schmancy guitar player thing? I was right there beneath him and IN FEAR FOR MY LIFE. Seriously. Call the number... or you could try looking up the church's website with google (if they have one).

go to the website i listed above. it's the event putting on the concert. just found out that it starts at 5pm (probably for the BMX bikers to do their stuff before the rock show).

i'm hoping to give the venue a call this weekend for more info.

But, really, why are they performing in two of the most unknown, dead-zone places in California?

Victorville is no dead zone my friend. It has grown extremely fast in the last 10 years. There's about 300,000 people in the high desert area. High Desert Church if it's the one I'm thinking of is huge. In fact for those who are going there will be 3 times the seating than Calvary Chapel of the High Desert which is where Skillet has played many times in the past.

I just checked - Victorville does have a good-sized population these days (~91,000 according to Wikipedia). So, you got me on that one. ;) I guess my assumptions about the region being a "dead zone" come from my childhood days in the '80s, when the communties really were spread out more and thus had far fewer people - no doubt the result of all those people from Orange and L.A. counties moving east. ::]

Come to think of it, my "home back home" (Beaumont) is much the same way - formerly a one-horse town on the way out to Palm Springs, now being rapidly built up.

But, enough of that. I just wish I was back home to see them in concert! Gah!

Question is why not play L.A or the OC.
