What are some of your favs and why? And what are some songs that aren't suposed to be sad songs you think are sad and why?

Seize the Day-Avenged Sevenfold. I get mental images of it being my g/f in the car that got hit by the van in the music video.
From December-Project 86. I get mental images of who knows how many of my loved ones dying.
Things Left Unsaid-Disciple. see above
In Loving Memory-Alter Bridge. see above
Wiskey Lulaby-Brad Pasley. i have no clue
Cry Out to Jesus-Third Day. idk how to explain.

Odd ones. (most of these would count as personal favs to)
By Myself-Linkin Park. I can't count the number of times parts of this song have been the story of my life.
Somewhere I Belong-LP. see above
Easier to Run-LP. see above
Breaking the Habit-LP. I can't count the number of times I wished that song was me.
Hearts of the Innocent-Kutless. "To see them hurting feels like knuckles to the back of my head!" do I need to say more?
Heart Strings Come Undone-Demon Hunter. idk why
1000 Apollogies-DH. reminds me of the people I've hurt..
Will You-POD. Idk why
Let This One Stay-Dizmas. reminds me of the people I worry about losing.
Broken Wings-Alter Bridge. idk why
Last Words-Thousand Foot Krutch. reminds me of all the times I wanted to end it all and leave a note like this song
Say Goodbye-Skillet. makes me think about my g/f dumping me.

Ok now that I look like a total emo girl it's your turn.

nice idea for a thread. i'm gonna come back with more later. the reasons i find these sad is pretty much because of the lyrics. i put up the lyrics in the songs that tend to get me more often than not.

The Kill-30 Seconds to Mars (
(look in my eyes
you're killing me, killing me
all i wanted was you.)

A Lack of Color-Death Cab for Cutie (
(i should have given you
a reason to stay.)

Leave the Light On-Beth Hart (
(i ain't that bad,
i'm just messed up
i ain't that sad but...
i'm sad enough.)
come to think of it, that entire song is really sad. go listen to it like now.

okay. and then there's this song. quite possibly one of the saddest songs i've ever heard. you just have to listen to it to understand how sad it is.
A Man/Me/Then Jim-Rilo Kiley (

12-01-2006, 11:18 PM
Mixtape- Butch Walker
(you gave the bets mixtape I have and even all the sad songs aint so sad)

Don't Breathe- Ben Hardy (

12-02-2006, 01:35 AM
Hold Fast - Saving Monday (
I find it amusing that you, all the way in Kentucky, know about these boys. I used to go to church with them, took Adam to see AFI with me, had a crush on Jake and took hundreds of photographs for them at shows and for their website. Their music is good but <opinion>Jake and Justin are collosal jerks</opinion>.

Anyhow. There's so many sad songs I completely adore for so many reasons. Some of my current favourites are:

Let it Die - Feist
Cancer - My Chemical Romance
Accidental Babies - Damien Rice

I'd never be able to list and explain every single one I love and why it's dear to me.

Breaking the Habits- Lp (because....)
Say Goodbye- Skillet (it makes me think of all the people that left me and let me down)
Slipped away- Avril Lavigne (omg, saddest song ever...makes me cry every time i hear it cause i think of Grant.)
1,000 Apologies- DH (i owe more than a few people 1,000 apologies.)
By Myself- LP (idk....)
Somewhere I belong- LP (it's the story of my life....99% percent of the time i hear it i cry.)
Easier to Run- LP (lyrics...)
Last Words- TFK (omg... it would take too long to explain...)
Whispers in the dark- skillet (idk... )
Open Wounds- Skillet (it makes me think of people)
The Last Night- Skillet (it makes me think of people...)
Zero- HN (most of the time i feel like a zero...)
Fourteen- HN ("It gets so lonely after dark." idk...lyrics i guess)
Everything you ever wanted- HN ("I tried to be stronger, tried to smarter..." it makes me think of how i've let people down...)

omg i'm sure i'll be back but that's what i got right now. now i want to go listen to them all.

I have more
The Tide Began to Rise-Demon Hunter (I find both versions sad ,but the original one more so. "I found a dark infernal place I don't wanna face any more" "If this is all the love my spirit can give just take it back tonight there is not a reason more to live" I used to relate to the first one way too much and idk if the day will ever come the second one isn't me)
Suicide-Disciple (I think the title's self explanitory)
Infected-DH "I can't do this alone"
Deteriorate-DH "I need a heart that carries on through the pain when the walls start colapsing again"
I thank all of you for reminding me about the ones below this. :)
Take Me-Hawk Nelson "Take me under Your wings tonight"
Already Over-Red (I don't remeber the words very well, but it was something in there I think it went like this "And now the only choice I have is to surender")
This Is A Call-TFK (...he loves but he's scared to use it so he hides behind the music because he likes it that way and he crys but you'll rarely see him do it..he needs to find the surface 'cause he's starting to get nervous")
Easier to Run-LP (I's easier to run than face all this pain here all alone)

ghosts of you-chantal kreviazuk

i found it on youtube, just as a tribute video, but i didn't think it was a very appropriate video, so i'll just post the lyrics. but yeah. this song doesn't actually seem all that sad on the surface, but when you let the lyrics sink in, it's super sad.

We were occupied
I never had to go outside
I was your alibi
We were planning our escape

We stayed up all night
With Lucy in the diamond sky
Drank cheap red wine
And tucked ourselves to sleep

Please don't go
These ghosts of you
The only thing that help get me through the day
Baby please don't go
'Cause I love you
You're the only one that will stay the same

We could laugh out loud
And sing until the sun came out
We took a secret vow
That we would never change

You always loved to dance
I wish we had another chance
To go back in time
And do it all again

I don't want to live forever
But if we could be together
Then I wouldn't mind infinity
I don't want to live forever
Oh, but I can still remember
No, I wouldn't mind infinity

*sigh* and missy higgins...well...pretty much EVERY song of hers is just so heartbreaking, but this one takes the cake:

I have heard one song she did a while back. I don't even remember what it was... it was on some Lilith Fair comp. I had. The song was one of my favourites so I'm sure I'd like whatever I heard.

november by azure ray. just take a second to read the lyrics. i'm sorry that they're kind of long, but they're just SO good. if you don't want to read the lyrics, go to their myspace page and listen to it (and download the song called "leap year" off the myspace page, too)

So I'm waiting for this test to end
So these lighter days can soon begin
I'll be alone but maybe more carefree
Like a kite that floats so effortlessly

I was afraid to be alone
Now I'm scared thats how I'd like to be
All these faces none the same
How can there be so many personalities

So many lifeless empty hands
So many hearts in great demand
And now my sorrow seems so far away
Until I'm taken by these bolts of pain

But I turn them off and tuck them away
'till these rainy days that make them stay
And then I'll cry so hard to these sad songs
And the words still ring, once here now gone

And they echo through my head everyday
And I dont think they'll ever go away
Just like thinking of your childhood home
But we cant go back we're on our own

But i'm about to give this one more shot
And find it in myself
I'll find it in myself
So were speeding to that time of year

To the day that marks that you're not here
And i think I'll want to be alone
So please understand if I dont answer the phone

I'll just sit and stare at my deep blue walls
Until I can see nothing at all
Only particles some fast some slow
All my eyes can see is all I know

But I'm about to give this one more shot
And find it in myself
I'll find it in myself

the interview-AFI

some lyrics are just way too good. like these ones. i had to post them.

Forever waiting for disaster,
What David calls servant and master,
Will you play it too?
As this displacement begs for water.
Swimming, bathing.
Drowning in sorrow.

Scream with me.

I crawl across this cracked expansion,
I'll be buried soon.
Beneath the sand with pure intentions.
Wanting something, someone to follow.

For a change, I'll refrain,
From hiding all of me from you.
(here's my lullaby.)
Pray for rain, lose your name.
And watch all your dreams fall through.
(hush now, don't you cry)

I swoon upon my knees come crashing,
Will you bury me?
Today, this small favour I am asking
Hold me, you may drop me tomorrow.

Calm down.
Come down cold resides with me.
With me.

I flee to, I flee to decemberunderground.
As you exhale, I breathe in and sink into,
The water underground,
And I grow pale without you.

1st half of infest by papa roach
open wounds, last night, falling in side the black, savior by skillet

Letter to god - London after midnight
Killing Loneliness - him
Don't fear the reaper - Blue oyster cult
that silly song by vitimin c about graduation
really most secular rock music to me is both happy and sad, and some christian rock.

For me in the secular area it'd be songs about...not being alone, but certain feelings that are hard to escape, that cause distancing problems, suicide, depression, fear, that sort of thing.

In christian music it'd be somewhat the same but not, i've never had a good relationship with god, i've never been able to give trust(which is something i really should be able to do with him/her/it) so, i have the sadness that i can't so any music that can relate to that will be good in my book(and like i said before happy music is sad music to me...or well sad music is happy music bah i just confused myself.

Sonny- New Found Glory
Scars- Papa Roach

Good Riddance- Green Day
A lot of music that i used to listen to a few years ago, because it reminds me of the old friends i wish i couldve done more for..
Face Down- Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
[edited] version of I'll Be Missing You- P. Diddy. (one of the very few rap songs i like)
Linkin Park and Evanescence and Switchfoot, depending on which songs...
Jimmy Eat World's "Hear You Me". The others bring me to tears if i hear them more than once, this brings me to tears everytime i hear it.
Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol.
The Fray's "How to Save a life." If i'm thinking too deeply about the lyrics and some memories, then i'll cry. Also if i see the music video.
Vitamin C's songs "Graduation" and "That was Then, This is now."
Any song about leaving or growing apart or forgetting. =\
+ "Listen to your heart" by DHT

I dunno. Any song that i can emotionally connect with- even if it makes me cry- i usually like.
