Flyleaf is 2nd best next to Skillet, but as long as they're both there, awesome. I guess co-headlining is suitable. I'd travel pretty far to see this.

I have limited traveling abilities, so hopefully they come to Oregon or southern Washington. But these are my two favorite bands, so even if I don't end up getting to go (which might happen) it's still AWESOME that they can tour together.

DarkestRose

Flyleaf's song "Breathe Today" and Skillet's "Comatose" kinda run along the same meaning. Maybe one could combine the lyrics in a way for a nifty name? Along the meaning of waking up.

yeah according to the thing from Flyleaf Skillet is opening. Which kinda makes sense... but its also kinda annoying since Skillet has been a band for so much longer.

timmyrotter
02-06-2007, 08:08 AM
yeah, but flyleaf has a larger secular audience, since they are playing non-christian venues, it makes sense. Skillet will probably be playing right before Flyleaf, not 'opening' like they did for saliva, earshot, shindown. there will be bands before them, like dropping daylight, which is a good band too.

I don't expect it to be more than 4-5 songs. They are an opening act so they are limited to the number of songs they can perform.

CJ

timmyrotter

terrasin
02-13-2007, 10:08 AM
Well, you can wish in one hand... I'm sure you know the rest. ;)

Fact is that opening bands don't get a good amount of songs. They are there for exposure purposes only. Just like when Skillet was on the Saliva tour, or when Seventh Day Slumber was on the Collide tour, they were trying to get more exposure. I'd be amazed if they got 6 songs, but it's highly doubtful seeing as it would go over their time slot. Especially if there is more than one opener... Remember that it's a Flyleaf tour, not a Skillet tour. Most people who are going aren't going to see Skillet.

CJ

CJ i know what you mean, but your anologies are flawed. Saliva tour, skillet opened, then earshot played, then Shindown, then saliva.
Flyleaf Tour, Resident hereo, dropping daylight, skillet, then flyleaf. now to say Shinedown played the same amount of songs as skillet on the saliva tour would be incorrect. there is a reason for the order, Shinedown had about 2 top 10 hits by then, Skillet had jsut released savior. make sense? Skillet will be drawing a lot of fans, flyleaf knows that, Skillet will get their time on stage. in fact i'll up the anti, 7-11 songs for Skillet. time will only tell CJ.
exposure for bands with little fanbase maybe, like the first two on this tour, but Skillet is on this tour to draw fans out to the shows. one last thing, when say, Nickelback takes three days grace on tour, it isnt for exposure, its to draw more fans out. hope this makes sense.

I will most likely be at that show. I saw Disciple/Family Force 5/Fireflight/Decyfer Down there last month. Actually, "further" denotes inner space, "farther" denotes distance (i.e. in the Chronicles of Narnia, Lewis changed the phrase "farther up and farther in" to "further" in The Last Battle, since they were in New Narnia and it wasn't true space).

So, if you wanted to correct me, you could say "You mean 'farther'?" because that's actually the correct word both times, but i choose to use both because it sounded better. :P There, i broke the rules of English, but i knew i was doing it and had a reason for it. Better than 98% of the American public. ::]

Anyway, Bob, excellent beard. :D

Well Skillet just joined Flyleaf at the BattleCry event in Detroit, so technically I'll be seeing this tour, although I really wonder if it counts as one of the tour dates.

I've very rarely been checking these boards lately because I've been so busy working side projects and doing production for a bunch of bands and theater gigs, so I've missed a few posts here and there, especially in the Skillet section; hence, my lackage of posts in the past month. *shrugs* such is life and working in the industry.

Hey Guys, I don't know if you all know this yet, but the Justice-Mercy tour has been prostoned. (a couple of days) Laceys voice is messed up. She went to the doctors and was told to rest for a little bit. Hopefully they'll get back up soon!!

The Cd being released for this tour is a new Flyleaf EP, not a Skillet, so I don't think you'll see it with Deceyfer Down.

Could someone explain to me why Skillet had to cancel their shows because of Flyleaf's inability to perform? I mean Skillet was the headliner, right? Why not just get another opening act or simply just perform the dates as scheduled without an opener?

Am I the only one this isn't making sense to?!?!

???

DarkestRose

I think Flyleaf was the headliner actually.

timmyrotter
04-30-2007, 08:22 PM
Jennifer is correct, flyleaf was headlining the tour. so the tour had to be canceled, i know Skillet played at at least one city at a different venue minus flyleaf, so they tried.

Flyleaf sold more CDs, hence they're the headliner. :P

Wow. I had no idea. Fascinating.

I was working a secular rock fest in Jacksonville, FL this last weekend (Papa Roach was the headliner) and Flyleaf was supposed to open. We didn't know until the day of that Flyleaf wasn't performing. I had heard about the vocal problems but was unsure if they were going to try to do that show or not.

theelectric3
05-01-2007, 07:12 PM
yeah, it's a bummer about lacey's voice. you wonder if it'll get to the point of choosing the band or being able to talk.

that's one thing with good screamo-type bands. there are a few that are just solid but they don't last forever because vocal chords can only take so much abuse.

bob
05-01-2007, 07:17 PM
I wonder if there is a comparison drawn between male and femal vocal chords, I honestly don't know if female vocal chords are more delicate than the male's.

DarkestRose
05-01-2007, 07:28 PM
My sister thinks that Lacey's technique for screaming is the problem. I thought she was doing it fine, better than I could. Does anyone know how you're supposed to do the screams like that?

bob
05-01-2007, 08:04 PM
It is supposed to be more from the gut than from the throat. The lead singer for Arch Enemy (http://myspace.com/archenemy) is a female and she has a scream that's lower than some males. :P I've never read a report of her shredding her vocal cords. So I really don't know. I know that there are improper ways like screaming as hard as you can is not a good tactic. Jesse Leach, the former lead singer of Killswitch Engage, almost lost his ability to talk by doing that.

yeah my girlfriend permanently ruined hers. she is really involved in leadership at her school and is always talking and stuff. plus she yelled a lot during cross country, and last summer she lost her voice, but then when swimming came around the chlorine makes it worse now she has vocal chord nodes kinda pollup thingys that make her voice raspy and she sounds like a boy going through puberty at times... but she is getting them removed this summer. all this to say, if she can do it, im sure someone who screams for a living can.

bob
05-01-2007, 08:27 PM
Yeah, James LaBrie of Dream Theater once ripped his vocal cords up back in 1994 and it took them three years to heal. And he doesn't even scream in their music, he just sings insanely high pitched stuff. Vocal cords are pretty fragile.

timmyrotter
05-14-2007, 12:06 PM
i dont think they will reschedule dates, i wish they would, but both bands are pretty booked for awhile, and once flyleaf slows down, they will probably head back to the studio. Skillet does need to get on a secular tour this summer though.

Joelle

Joelle

p.s. in the summer skillet plays a bazillion festivals..they'd never have time to go on a secular tour..however i heard they might be opening for breaking benjamin and i forget the other band...but it's some tour..no idea when it is..

timmyrotter
05-14-2007, 05:23 PM
with Three days grace (also one of the first mainstream acts they opened for.). i think that is only on a date or two though, so they arent touring with them. if Skillet gets picked up on a good tour this summer, i hope they take it and skip the festivals, it will be much better for them (why? new fans, as opposed to old ones) i know not so good for some, but in the long run it is better for the band. cross your fingers, hopefully some big act picks them up!

I saw Skillet during the Flyleaf tour on April 2 in Atlanta.

I know this is late...I haven't had access in awhile...low and behold we have wirless and didn't even know it!

They didn't do as many songs as usual since they weren't opening, but it was still great. John seemed tired, at one point he pointed for Korey to take over the vocals, and it wasn't a place she normally sings. Korey sounded better on The Last Night than on any of the other live performances I've watched videos from...and she sounded better than she did on the CD.

There were three bands before Skillet. One was Fervor, and they were really good live. The lead singer gave me a CD after their show, but I liked them live better. So, maybe they are improving!

I left after Skillet, so I can't say I heard the two bands together. (Don't boo too loudly.) I had Linds with me, and we had already been there four hours. It was a school night for her, so Flyleaf starting at 10 was late for her.

I don't know about the Chicago show, but the Cincinnati show (last of the tour) really rocked last night. It was awesome. I lost my glasses for the second time during My Obsession. I will laugh if I lose them again next time I see them. It was really cool, after the show not many people stayed around, so my friends and I talked to the John and the band for like 5-10 minutes after. He told my friend and I we were the craziest people in the crowd (singing in every song etc. etc.) which was cool. Last time I met them they were all so busy signing stuff they couldn't really talk, so this time was cool. Great show.
