So I've had the Comatose CD for a while now, right??
I just listened to the lyrics in Say Goodbye... and they're so much like something I wrote when I first moved up here to Oregon... Anyways... they're depressing me because me and my friend have been going through all these problems lately...... But yeah... the song's pretty....

theelectric3
01-12-2007, 07:54 PM
depression, i believe, is when we focus too much on self. look around to others and how you can help...

i know that really helps me when i get down. to change my focus to others and not just me and my current issues.

and there is the hope. so no, you don't have to get depressed again. :)

it is amazing how therapeutic it is to help others when you are hurting (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

It's because we care about other people in a difrent more eomotional way or we're focusing on the negative of what they're going through...basically emo with an outward veiw

Whining and complaing and getting upset about every little thing that happens in someone elses life[lives]

Hmm okay. I don't get whiny and complain and get upset about every little thing that happens in others' lives, but I do get depressed and such at others' hurt and loss. Not girlfriends that dumped them two and a half years ago though :P

I'm an INFJ and I don't find the song as really sad.

Maybe it could evoke a sort of lamenting, lost, loney, wistful and longing feeling. But I kinda like those emotions because they're very raw and real.

This is what music should be all about. Making people think! Music has become too commercial, too lovey, too making people happy and not enough of thought and realism into it.

This is extactly what I love about SKillet. They are a band that challenges people, makes them think about their life, and how it relates to Christ.

If thier music makes you think on your past, and if that is depressing, use whatever pains/hurts/whatever you faced back then that you have come through to Gods advantage.

God heals people, but He never makes people totally whole - He leaves scars. If you are remembering bad things in your past that you have worked through, that are being brought up again; there is a reason for it. God does not in coincidences - Jer 1:5 (and no I am not trying to start the whole 'Predestinaton v Free Will' debate) - He is bringing up past hurts for a reason. Jesus never fully healed Himself for a reason, He left His scars to prove His ressurection to the Disciples.

The only way you can know why is to ask Him.

Say Goodbye makes me kindof have a sort of "homesick" kind of feeling...does that make any sense? Like you don't want things to change.

Yeah, that's kind of how I felt about it too. Kind of bittersweet, you know things need to change but it's sad, at the same time knowing it's for the best...

Compared to their earlier music, yes, I suppose so, but I would say that's just because their lyrics are dealing with different issues than before. Before, they seemed to be speaking directly to the Church, but they are now dealing with a larger audience and, well, let's face it, there's a lot of pain and darkness out there, and it has to be addressed in order for anyone to take you seriously. In order to show the hope and salvation that comes from Christ, you first have to level the playing field by acknowledging that it is needed. When dealing with predominantly Christians, it is usually legitimate to assume that a certain level of hope already exists there: thus, the message is different. That's my opinion anyway, if it made any sense...
As a side-note, however, I thought Comatose was a lot more hope-filled than Collide... anyone else think so?

I definitely, agree with that.

Previously, Skillet did songs that focused on God’s forgiveness, God’s assurance, the faithfulness of God, etc. The biggest themes were about radical godly Christlike Spirit-filled Christianity, and how powerful and great God is. Many songs wear geared toward the Church, in how we need to approach God and others.

I will mention that the Alien Youth songs “Vapor” and “Eating Me Away” strike me as the darkest of all Skillet songs (from debut album to Comatose) because of the empty, hopeless mindset of what it would be like to live in a godless universe.

I see Comatose more as facing certain issues for the purpose of caring about the people these issues affect. John’s ideals are very similar to mine, especially in the case of “Looking for Angels,” so I felt very passionate and inspired by the album. But then again, when I talk to people about my ideals, they think I’m being depressing, so who knows?
