Check out my photos from last night's Skillet concert in Memphis with Flyleaf. As usual, Skillet's set was too short, but good. They were having some pretty rough issues with John's bass, but everyone kept cool about it.

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing these! I especially love the ones of John throwing his bass. Those kind of shots are sooo cool. And by the looks of it, John has a maroon flamed bass? Hm, didn't know that. I remember him busting that new black one, I guess he got a maroon one instead this time.

Yeah, this one was maroon with chrome flames. He had problems with it, and played that red one for a while, but then went back to it. All his basses (?) are still 5 strings, though.

He has both a black and a red version. Excellent basses. :)

I have a question..

Did you use a DSLR for these? If so, what settings did you use?

I used my 8 MP Canon EOS Digi. Rebel (so yes, a DSLR). Most of the shots are somewhere between f1.8 and 2.8, with shutter speeds varying from 1/100 to 1/225, for the most part. All were shot at ISO 800.

I'm planning on using my Nikon D50 at the show I'm going to.. but I've never done concert photography before and I'm having a hard time figuring out what settings will be best.

I've got the ISO at 800, but for some reason I can't get the aperture lower than F3.5? is it because of the lens I'm using? I don't really get why I can't lower it. I suck at fancy cameras.

Yeah, the lens controls F/stop. 3.5 is not going to let enough light in so the camera can shoot fast enough to capture moving people, let alone in the light conditions at a show.

This blog (http://boudist.com/archive/2006/02/08/tips_for_live_music_concert_photography.php) explains it better than I can...
