I always thought it'd be fun to work a night shift at a fast food restaurant. I was thinking that people who travel at night usually do so because they have been on a long trip (I assume) and I think it'd be cool to be really perky and sorta cheer them up from road-tiredness by being really nice to them. Most people I see on late night/early morning shifts seem kinda tired.

My brother worked the night shift at a Super Target stocking shelves and he said that it was the greatest fun because they were all so out of it and he has so many hilarious stories involving stocking dairy products. :P

I've always wanted to try a night shift too, but more or less something that required a lot more energy so i wouldnt get tired.

I guess you'd have to consult a sleep therapist or something. The one distinguishing feature of it is that you really don't like waking up in the morning (who does?) but then when you try to go to sleep at night, you aren't tired.

I know I don't have this, but I just have a messed up sleep cycle.
My problem is that I stay up late and then wake up early and am tired the whole day. I fall asleep in first block, and sometimes second, then I get home and end up falling asleep on the couch for a while (Sometimes over an hour, sometimes no more than 30 minutes) and then when it comes time to go to bed, I can't. I toss and turn and wake up about fifty times during the night. Then I wake up tired and the cycle starts over again.

I've fixed it some by not taking a nap for more than 20 minutes (that's the recommended time maximum of cat nap according to scientists who deal with sleep disorders), but sometimes that doesn't work out. Or, I just force myself to stay awake.

riz
05-02-2007, 06:53 PM
Actually you shouldn't nap at all after 3pm if you want to attempt to get back to a normal sleeping pattern (and you don't have insomnia).

Jetlag is the same thing; when you get into the new time zone, try to fall asleep at their time instead of when you think you should fall asleep. It'll be easier to adjust.

Yikes, I sounded way too informative and erudite there.

wow. that's wierd. i just read the article and it sounds just like me.
i never heard of this disorder.
my sleep patterns were always whacked. i would stay up till anywhere from 3am to 5am, 6am if i pushed it. i still do. and then get up at about 1 or 2pm.
and when i was in school i had a hard time getting up in the morning, even when i wnet to bed at a decent hour and slept good, i still feel tired, or i go to bed early, toss and turn the whole night and get no sleep, maybe if im lucky i would sleep soundly for an hour or 2 and then i have to get up, and wake up exausted.
but now im not in school. this winter i stayed up till almost dawn and would wake up at anywhere from 7-9pm and it would be dark outside.
i normally right now stay up till 3 or 4am, till i finally get sleepy, and then sleep till anywhere from 1-3pm.
if i get up at noon i'm forcing myself.and still feel tired even after 12,13 freakin' hours of sleep.
and all i hear from everyone, my mom included is that im just "lazy" :(, i'm so sick of that. i always thought i had some type of problem, but would just ignore it, or think nah thats crazy. or when i would mention to someone else, they just laugh. and my mom just says, even yells at me "your just lazy, nothing wrong with you"
even though i do sometimes try and force to go to bed ealry and get up early, it never works. it's frustrating.
i mean, i do like staying up late hours, always have, but itd not normal to sleep aover 12 hrs and still be tired and have to force yourself to get up even after way too much sleep. and im sick of people calling me lazy or making fun of me because i sleep too much. or anytime people ask where iam me mom tells them im sleeping and then she tells me she's "ashamed and embarrassed" of me when people ask for me and im still in bed.

bob

i do have the lights off and keep it darl most the time, sometimes it helps a little, other times it doesn't. *shrug*
well it's something to think about. because i was strange that i have been thinking whats wrong with me, and then today i randomly come on this forum and find this topic so i was maybe this is me. i think im going to look in to it anyway. because i need to see a doctor because i complete physical, because i always feel crappy and sluggish, but then again i think i have some depression to. but i have do something, because i have to get in college before aug26 and will have to get up earlier even to get the paperwork out of the way.
so i think i'll discuss it with him and see.
even if i do happen have this it won't bother me, because then i will be happy to know whats wrong with me, instead of being called lazy. and then i can work around it and get my life in order. :)

ehh. Insomnia is a horrid cycle. I slept 3 hours last night, and am now in the process of loading up on caffeine to stay awake at work, but now since I'm loaded on caffeine, I won't sleep but maybe 2 hours, and then I'll have to load up even heavier on caffeine.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat until I get sick from no sleep killing my immune system. I suppose after 21 years of this I'm used to it, but it does grow old at times.
