I have been having a problem downloading music (and a podcast) from the iTunes store. I can buy music just fine, but when it goes to download, sometimes (a lot of the time actually. I have had this happen eleven times since I got my iPod for Christmas) it will download most of the way, and then a window saying "There was a problem downloading [song title]/[album title]/artist].
The file seems to be corrupted. To re-download the file, chose "check for purchases" from the Store menu."
In the status window, it says "zero KB of [number] MB - STOPPED (err. -100008 )"
This is getting annoying, and I want it to stop. My computer is a Dell Windows XP operating package two, I think, and I have the latest version of iTunes (7.1.1.5). If anyone has any insight, that would be much appreciated! If not, I suppose I'll just have to write to iTunes and yell at them… ::]

#1: GET A MAC!! They are so much better for Apple products. (duh) :P
#2: The Apple support forums are a great place to look for help. (http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=149)
#3: Are you doing anything in iTunes when this happens?
#4: Is there a button next to the download that you can click on at all?

2: okay, thanks :P
3: nope. once i say "buy music" i leave itunes alone except to obsessively check on the download status ::]
4: yea, i can resume/restart the download and then pause it, but it dosent make any difference.

Duh that's happened to me, too!!! It's taken $12 from me. A few of the songs EVENTUALLY worked..like AFTER I had already bought them from somewhere else. I looked all over the apple website and there is noooo help whatsoever. It's making me mad!!!

The website or the forums? Did you go to apple.com, click on 'support' search 'blah blah about iTunes', and then go through the options, including the forums? They are PACKED with stuff. (note, if you click on the forums, it will take you to the iTunes support board. You can search withing the board as well.)

i know its annoying!!!! i had to rebuy a few songs, and im lucky, cause they had another version of the song (different album version), but most of the other things dont. and i cant just rebuy the songs from the same album because it says (basically) "you idiot, you already own that!"
and yea, they dont have ANYTHING on the main part of the support.

I don't know exactly what happens when it stops, but some of these might help you. If not, search using the search box on the right side of the page.

Mp3.com is another online place where you can purchase songs. Have you tried re-installing iTunes? It shouldn't delete your music folder.

.....or you could just use limewire so u don't get cheated with your money.
sorry if that offends you, but its just me:P :P

Though, you should note two things, Jesse. These being 1) Limewire is often includes illegal activities, and 2) a lot of people don't want to partake in illegal activity. ...Though I have looked for stuff on there as a last resort... Though I never downloaded anything!! :P

of corse you havent ;). mp3.com wont display, so i doubt that limewire would, plus my paretns would be ticked if i illegally downloaded whatnot.
and now i have another problem. i set my preferance to itunes plus, but i dont want it, so how do i change it back? ive been all around the pref. menu and i cant find anything...

mp3 wont display whataha? And whats iTunes plus? I haven't heard of that...Chances are I use it without knowing, probably.

06-05-2007, 08:08 PM
yea, my parents have a blocker on the computer (>:() that wont let the net display my(c)space, mp3.com, and a lot of the more...eh, controversial (sp?) threads on here, plus it blocks a lot of words...really annoying
itunes plus is music w/o the protection stuff. costs more, so thats a waste i think. and you have to re-agree to the itunes whatnot to use it so, youll know about it.
oh yea, and i figured out how to turn it off. its under the account window, instead of preferances for whatever reason...
The Lamma
06-06-2007, 05:22 PM
Oh!! That!! The higher-quality music downloads on the new version of iTunes!! I feel dumb now...:P Why would you want to turn it off, anyway? I haven't used it yet, so I don't know if makes you buy the more expensive songs if you have it activated.
Quadripedman
06-08-2007, 08:18 PM
well, its more expensive, and i can overwrite any "limits" on copying lol...
ill probally use it, its just when i try to get to albums it sometimes says "sorry, this album is not available in the US store" (like david crowder*band...a collision. if it wasing in the us store, where the heck would it be???!)
The Lamma
06-09-2007, 10:22 AM
I wouldn't buy the more expensive music. And why wouldn't the US store have certain music?? I thought the Canada store was lacking.

06-09-2007, 05:35 PM
yea thats what i was wondering too. probally its just that apple hasnt ironed all of the bugs out of the itunes plus yet. oh well lol.
The Lamma

Apple likes to iron bugs out before release. Which part are you talkin', though?
Quadripedman
06-12-2007, 08:40 AM
(i think i understood that) im talking about like cds that say that theyre in itunes plus, and are in the itunes regular store, and then it says "sorry, this cd isnt available in the us store" i dont know whats up with that.
and, a lot of times, it wont let me search for things, because it says either my connection timed out, or some error or something.
The Lamma
06-12-2007, 11:25 AM
...Dont use iTunes Plus? It is a new release.

Quadripedman

if you click on the itunes plus link in the its it will have options to upgrade your music.
1) iTunes Plus is more than just uncrippled music. It's twice the quality (256KBPS AAC versus 128KBPS AAC). I upgraded my library that was available for iTunes plus and it's well worth it for the better sound quality.
2) iTunes Plus songs are only EMI and associated record labels at this time. If you buy the songs, more of them will become available as labels realize people will pay more for the ability to listen to their music that they paid for. For more information, visit http://defectivebydesign.com
3) If an album isn't available in iTunes Plus format, the regular version can be downloaded. As far as the preference, I'll look it up tonight when I get off of work, however, I only use Mac OS X these days, Tiger for now, Leopard upon its release.
4) I would try running a defrag and a hard disk scan on that computer. Make sure your file system is in good health before trying to download again.
5) As mentioned before, Limewire is not only illegal, and can get you and/or your parents sued by the RIAA, but it's against the Terms of Service with a lot of ISPs (the one I work for forbids any file sharing of any kind, and I can report people that do use it and aren't bright enough to not tell me they're trying to pirate music.) This can get your internet connection suspended and/or cancelled depending on the severity of the offense. I run across at least 4-5 people a week that have been busted for "DMCA Violation" - pirating movies, music, software, whatever. Very bad idea, ISPs check for this thing, and the RIAA/MPAA does too.
While I don't agree at all with encrypted (read: crippled) music, piracy is not the way. DefectiveByDesign is a good way to show that you won't put up with it. Also visit http://eff.org The Electronic Frontier Foundation. They do tons to help the old ladies and dead people that have been sued by the RIAA in their rediculous lawsuits based on circumstantial evidence that shouldn't hold up in any court room.
And my rant is done. :-P

I've never clicked on that little link on the iTunes store home page...Lol. Isn't it also the case that you can have like twice as many computers and/or iPods connected to the songs?
Technically it's unlimted since the music isn't maimed. There's no software in place to keep you from copying it over and over and over.
Quadripedman
06-28-2007, 08:09 PM
well, i guess thats a good thing..maybe that will let me download the music >:(
and i ran a defrag, and theres a virus type thingie scan every morning. i dont know...maybe its just the computer, or a firewall or something.
