Background story: My laptop took a two foot drop when on. Hard drive decided to crash. For good. I finally got a new one, which works, but bleeding dell doesn't include a drivers dvd for me. And no, it's not included on the OS DVD. "This DVD is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers". Damnit.
So I'm trying to install what I need for my wireless card so that my computer can automatically get the rest of those bleeping drivers I need as my grandmother's connection is slow.
A few specs:
It's a Dell Notebook, an XPS | M140
Hard drive is 120 GB :D [/brag]
Wireless NIC Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG
I go to open the software "Intel(R) PROset/Wireless" and it opens, but along with it comes an error message saying "Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software was unable to detect a supported wireless adapter. Please install a supported adapter."
I click "okay" or whatever and the window open tells me "Driver is not installed"
Below that it says "A problem with this connection has been detected. Click Troubleshoot to resolve the problem."
I'm going nutso.

maybe because you had to get a new computer, the adapter isnt supported anymore? (and dont even bother with "troubleshooting". i know from experience that it will just make you want to destroy your computer.) you could try wading into the black abyss that is customer support, but you might want to beef up on your asian languages...dell is HORRIBLE at customer stuff. itd be easier to build one of their computers from scratch with plumbing parts than it is to figure out whats wrong with the stupid thing... sorry about the rant lol..

Did you get a new comp or laptop? And let me first say this: In the Windows world, the only thing below Dell is Acer. :P From my experience with Windows, the two I've had and some other ones, is that I often want to throw it out of a jet-plane and see if it gets caught in the engine or hit the ground first. I'm not much of one who knows a lot about Windows, but its probably some dumb reason that doesn't make any sense. Have you tried customer support at BestBuy, Circuit City, ect?
BTW, our iMac has 500GB. ;D

I dont think you'd have to convert your iTunes stuff, since iTunes is Apple brand. And Skynes, we also have a 150GB external and a 500GB back-up. :P

i meant convert as in like change it from computer to computer. and that includes weeding out all of my dads stuff that it downloaded from music match when i first downloaded itunes, so that i can FINALLY use the auto-update thingie. i AM so technical.

Do you do graphic, sound or video editing?
If no a Mac is an expensive waste of time.
Sure you could dual-boot Windows on it, but that knocks a chunk off the power.
1TB Hard drive (http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=4BMP&CategorySelectedId=11026&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11026&InMerch=1) I SO WANT.

Macs are also sometimes good if you want better than Dell or Acer, but often people are content with those. And thats the first 1TB drive I saw, earlier!! Our 500GB is the same company.

Go to dell.com's tech support area and get the drivers there. They have all the ones for your specific lappy there.

Not if they're mislabeled, and the actual drivers that I need can't be found on Dell's site due to this ;)
Gotta love Dell.
