Is this a good time to resurrect the discussion of releasing these songs for download online? We never heard the outcome of those talks, presuming they happened.

DarkestRose

Well, it's not exactly that much. It depends on how high the bidding goes. It has gone up that high once, but it could be around "only" $50 or $70. But there is a high demand and small supply, like the Alkeme CD.

it is more a collectors item. i have the tracks, and ive said this a billion times, but, if you only want it for the music, you arent missing out. there is a reason it didnt make the original album...

DarkestRose

But now you can buy mediocre Skillet songs for a hundred a piece!

The only "rare" CD I've bought was Jennifer Knapp's demo album "Wishing Well". It was in the $50-70 and it was an exception because I love her confessional lyrics.

So...its not THAT great? Ok....well then, never mind, I just thought that since it was Skillet, it would be good, because most of there songs are! I guess those are the GREAT ones that make it on cd's!!!!

The songs are alright. I like it simply because John has a good voice, but like Timmy said, it's not anything special. I just acquired it simply because I like keeping the claim that "I have every song Skillet has ever released".

The limited edition songs were recorded in 2001 and the Veggie Tales song is from 2006.

Unless you're asking if I have the Veggie Tales song, in which case, the answer would be yes. I even have the song "Last Day of Summer" that was on a complication album.

I wish I had all of them...all I have are Invinsible, Alien Youth, Collide, and Comatose...I get HYILYS, and the 1st skillet cd on my b-day!!

bob

I think HYILYS is an under rated album. Quite good. Except for the song Whirlwind.

I LIKE Whirlwind, Bob. That song gets stuck in my head so easily. It's catchy.

i dont like it just for the fact that he whisper-shouts all (or at least most) of the lyrics..

bob
07-02-2007, 09:09 PM
Are we talking about the same song?

DarkestRose
07-02-2007, 09:19 PM
This one:

Talking to God
Hearing what he wants
He moves in violence
I stand in silence

Who can question You, who can fathom You?
In your presence, who can stand?
Worlds spin around and kings crumble down
There's no escaping what You've planned

Winds approaching, clouds are forming
God in His power
Is swirling around me

Calling me, and you know my name
So jump in or be taken, yea I can't
Run long enough, or go far enough
To escape the screaming rain

Chorus:
It's alright
It's alright
Jump in the whirlwind
I'm letting go
(repeat)

My world's at stake
I want to break
Stop the striving
Start the dying

I'm thrown into it
It's so imminent
There's no arguing what You say
I gotta keep fanning it, I keep fanning it
I keep fanning the fire to flames

(chorus)

Master and Savior, Sustainer and Creator
You move in power
And winds and thunder

(chorus)

I like it.

bob
07-02-2007, 09:21 PM
Yeah, but John doesn't shout at all in that song and he doesn't really whispers. He talks some of it, but that's about it.

*Shrug* I know. Maybe he perceives it differently? Or maybe he means a different song?

This really is a matter of opinion, and I beg to differ. Always the Same (though I have only heard the clip here on panheads) could be one of my favorite Skillet songs. Unfortunately, it is highly unavailable. I do agree that it is more of a collector's item, but at the same time, there is something about having ALL the bands music that is attractive.

Coupled with the ever-present shortage of new material from any band, and you start wanting to hear anything, as long as you haven't heard it before. Re-releasing these two tracks would be a great way to keep fans connected with Skillet while the band focuses on promoting the current album.

Quadripedman
07-02-2007, 09:38 PM
yea, thats true.

DarkestRose
07-02-2007, 10:56 PM
Paul, I agree with you. But in the tradition of the fox and the grapes, the unattainability of the CD makes us want to say it'll suck anyway (and Timmy said so, which reinforces it).

Paulishdog
07-03-2007, 11:15 AM
That's not exactly what Timmy said... but I know what you're saying.

Not to be a broken record, but no one seems to acknowledge the fact that at one point, there was interest (as I recall, it was from management, but maybe it didn't go beyond the mods here) in releasing these songs for download. I still want to know what happened on that front. Is this still a possibility?

Maugrim

Maybe that one is being saved for a future album.

I'm not so sure...the trend with alot of bands lately is to release unreleased tracks and other stuff on a "Special Edition" album and we all know the band has "Live Free" and those acoustic songs they recorded (there's more than two I'm sure). I just hope Skillet doesn't re-release Comatose. I understand that the Collide re-release had to happen but I wasn't jumping for joy to buy the same album twice for one new song.

Actually, the CD I had was deffective. So it only played 3/4 of the video and then it would come up with an error. It would get up to the part where John said "Korey writes all the pop songs" and then it would stop. I specifically remember being frustrated at this.

Flyleaf got on it but not Skillet? Ouch. Tells you what a bunch of new hype can do to a young band. Flyleaf is a talented band but I'm not much of a fan. You'd think Skillet would have some amount of popularity after rocking out for more than 10 years. Ah well.

bob

Yeah, it's on the lava re-release, the CD with "Open Wounds" on it. The video really isn't anything special.

The Hey, You, I Love Your Soul CD also has video on it. Again, nothing special, but you find out that Trey has bad gas and that makes van trips especially painful SO I guess that was worth it. :P

actually they had their first mainstream album released in may 2004 so 3 years ago. and Savior was released to mainstream radio before that, so technically the "switch to mainstream" happends over 3.5 years ago.
