NO. No Jimi Hendrix and his 'Smoke On The Water'. I've heard that TOO much.

I'd def. say Billy Martin, and I really like Ben as well...but those would have to be my favorite. And the guys from Extol. But Billy is def. at the top on my list.

Smoke on the Water was played by Deep Purple.

As for guitarists....
No Tom Morello? (audioslave, Rage Against the Machine)

I gotta go for him, that guy is very creative. We should get Ben to post some guitar players talent he likes.

As I said my hubby is my favorite.

But if we are going by the above list Jimmy Page first and Clapton second. But Clapton is more of a bluesy dude. And if your considering the blues you gotta consider BB King, talk about smooth... One who should be on the list is Eddie Van Halen. As far as christian bands go I think Ben is the most talented. Now if we could get a good lengthy solo out of Ben we could compare him to the others. He is stinking awesome, but seeing Jimmy Page live do a solo for 15 minute that included the violin bow solo from "Dazed and Confused" was too cool.

I dont Look at guitarists as being good Just because they can rip solos faster than light speed. I look at how well they can create catchy melodies and riffs. Its not all about shredding your guitar until you bleed. Most times the shredding needs to have the melody to work off of...

I have to agree with you. I'm more into rhythm then I am soloing and shredding. True, it IS awesome and takes talent, but I'm more into rhythm and playing with strumming.

Has anyone ever listened to Phil Keaggy? I mean, it's not exactly my music, but my dad listens to it sometimes, and Phil is really good. I heard that he was even one of the top 100 guitarists in Rolling Stone a couple years back.

BTW, how can you include the guitarist from AC/DC? They have a great sound, but it definately doesn't take an excessive amount of talent.

I dont kinow, He does some pretty Good work on the Live CD, and Truby from POD did a good job on the song Eternal...

Phil Keagy's the most tasteful guitarists I've heard in the Christian brachet! The guys awesome, no one can sweep pick like that guy, he's all over the neck! Not only does the dude love the Lord, but he's so good he has the respect of the secular world.
I'm affraid however that he's no match to Billy Corgan. He may not be "able" to sweep like Phil, but his solos were so gripping and so moving! He captured emotion with everything he did, and he knew his instrument well. He's hands down the best guitar player ever. Bar NONE! :afro:
